I sure hope so, Final Fantasy XII was such a failure. Lets hope they can have a little bit more character development and story. I mean seriously.. why does Penello even join your party? Square-Enix DS games are always promising however. |
vip |
Penelo joins the party because they needed the token Yuffie/Selphie/Eiko/Rikku character. |
|
you mean the other-than-main-female-character-that-looks-better-than-the-main-character's-real-love-interest? |
|
All of those people aren't Square-Enix's best characters but at least they had something to do with the story. Penelo just joins up because she's Vaan's sister, and FTW Vaan was the worst main (If you can even call him that) character. |
vip |
Veszerin... yes thats exactly what I mean. (there is also the token-dominatrix-main-female-character-that-looks-better-and-is-less-annoying-than-all-other-female-characters-combined)
and Highwind... Penelo isn't Vaan's sister, she is his girlfriend, or so I thought. either way, um, hooray for incest!?! |
|
Lol its not his girlfriend XD. Its not his biological sister (I think it said they were orphans) but I know they were raised both by that crocodile man. |
vip |
they were but I really thought I read somewhere at one point in time that she was his girlfriend. oh well. |

Penelo is Vaan's girlfriend. I'm not sure it was outright stated in the game proper, but it was stated many times in interviews and press releases. |
|
Well.. I don't know if your serious or not, but if she was.. why the hell wouldn't she be the main female role? God damnit I hate FFXII. |
vip |
thank you Rachel, I knew I had heard it somewhere. |

That was the point, that she wasn't the female lead. How many FF games have we had the male and female lead characters hooking up during/after the game. With XII we get something new. Ashe and Vaan have no romantic interest in eachother beyond the realm of fanfiction. And it was kind of nice for a change, not to have a romantic subplot tacked on to the main story. |
|
Yeah, it was nice to able to tell from their interactions with each other that something was going on between them, and having it left at that. They were supposed to be just kids along for the ride anyway. |

FF XII was not a failure. Incomplete game? Yeah, but holy shit it has moved the RPG genre forward in great ways. |
staff |
Yeah, totally Xavi. gameplay-wise there has never been to my recollection a game in the past decade that has been so fucking fresh and fun to play. The story is a crapass piece of crapshit, but I don't give a fuck because I'm having too much fun playing the game itself. |
vip |
Exactly.
Calling XII a failure = you dont know shit about game design. |
vip |
yes! thank you Rachel! heaven forbid the main male and female characters don't hook up! oh noes!! the main character is dating the supporting actress?? what next? gays in Ivalice? |
|
It moved the RPG genre? How? The battle system was very similar to to a MMORPG. So that wasn't new. I can understand what you mean some what because there was no more random battles, but Final Fantasy originated with random battles. I don't know, I just liked that way. About the graphics, I was no way putting down the graphics of this game, This game has awesome graphics and its quite amazing. However, for me, no story = no thx. I understand this game tried a bunch of "new" things but I just didn't like it. A strong romance is something I look forward to in a RPG. *WAX OFF* Haha jk. |
vip |
You make it sound like translating an offline battle system into a single player experience seamlessly is easy, plus adding the incredibly flexible gambit system. For real, games dont work in cut and paste forms like you make it sound like. It was an incredible achievement and theres a reason why many games will copy this format from now on.
I understand differences in taste. I fucking hate Tomb Raider but I will still mark it as one of the most important games of the 90's, even in its game design facet it achieved tremendous things. In order to truly judge games, you need to separate yourself from emotional aspects and judge the p[ackage for the sum of its parts, really. |
vip |
so Xavi, what you are implying is that stamping my feet and typing in all caps BUT I HATE IT! isn't a legitimate judgment? |
vip |
You can hate what you want, it just doesnt mean youre right. |
|
doesn't mean you're right either. |
vip |
I guess I failed to put the /sarcasm tag at the end of my post. it was supposed to be funny. |
|
Well whatever, this isn't what this topic is about, its about FFXII RW. What do you guys think? I really wanna give it a chance to fill up holes that FF12 left open. Last edited by RicardHighwind on October 28, 2007 |

I wasn't aware FFXII left holes...
Everything was rather simply resolved, by my view. |
|
they just want to make more money. |
|
I was hoping it could explain some of the characters a little better. I never really understood Vaan and Penelos characters. |
staff |
Well, let's not mistake character underdevelopment for a plot hole. |
|
Yes, sorry for the confusion. |
