You sound like a god damn advertisement.
I've been wanting to get my hands on some of RHCP's shit. Muse I never gave a proper chance, and the same with The Mars Volta. I heard some things by Arctic Monkeys...sounds like something that is definitely enjoyable.
Something else I've been listening to on sporadic occasions: Pelican.
Pelican, ISIS, Explosions in the Sky and Other Side of the Sky are very progressive, textural doom/sludge rock/metal. I don't know how you tend to feel about that sort of thing (but considering you enjoy Tool, and ISIS is known for supporting Tool on many an occasion, they may be worth checking out).
WHY DID I SPELL THIS TOPIC'S TITLE INCORRECTLY? IT DRIVES ME FUCKING MAD. |

ISIS I would definitely...DEFINITELY recommend. I would say that their albums "Panopticon (2004)" and "In the Absence of Truth (2006)" are absolutely essential. They started off in the hardcore genre, but eventually made their way to the post-rock/metal.
TMV always sounded to be a very artistic, yet insane, after-project. When you say acquired taste, I think Furze: a one man, bizarro-post-black-metal band named after a fucking plant...with an album named Necromanzee Cogent. I think after enduring the pain of listening to that and ultimately finding something worth listening to in that heap of insanity, I believe I could listen to anything.
Except, of course, "terror".
By the way, I don't think I ever asked you what you thought of "In Sorte Diaboli"? I'll say one thing. The material really holds it's own live. |
