Anyone else catch the premiere of this on Adult Swim last night?
After hearing pretty mixed reviews on it, I was surprised how entertaining it is. It's from the people behind Cowboy Bebop, and much better than Wolf's Rain (not like that takes much anyway). |

Samurai Champloo is one of the best anime I've ever seen. To all those who are going to watch is dubbed, my heartfelt sympathies. |

I'm not an anime goon, and I thought it was pretty rocking. I've seen maybe 3 or 4 episodes of it. I like hip-hop when done right. Samurais are awesome... IT ALL WORKS OUT! |

I couldn't agree more. Although I love a disturbing large amount of anime, so I wouldn't say it's one of the best. It is indeed worthy of praise, and it's historical background coupled with rap elements make it quite original. Although I haven't seen the dub and frankly don't want to, there's a large amount of things that would be hard to express in English regarding Japan's past, so I am sceptical of the quality that the dub would present. Frankly ever since FUNimation's disgustingly horrible FMA dub I have lost what little faith I had in America's anime dubbing industry. |

That's FUNimation though...they fuck EVERYTHING up. |

I agree, and couldn't possible agree more. Although most dubs tend to be fairly crap in their own way. |

Samurai Champloo came along just at the right time in my life.
"COOL!" |

Generally I maintain the same opinion, but I found that the Bebop dubs weren't too terrible. |

I normally don't mind dubbing...provided it's a company that tries to mantain the meaning and feeling of the original. Like ADV...or Geneon. |
staff |
Trying to maintain the original feel... While being good I suppose in theory, never works out well. I suppose my knowledge of Japanese puts my in a horribly bias position, but I have never seen a dub that was even close to the original anime.
About to finish Champloo actually, the last two episodes next Tuesday. (I reserved this for the weekly anime club screenings) I could actually have finished it a long time ago, but I felt for once I'd watch it a bit more spaced out, rather than the usual rush job. |

Many anime fans will probably want to stab me for saying this, but, I like dubs. Why? Because I don't always have time to sit and read the subtitles. In fact, 80-90% of the time I'm doing something else while watching the show. |
vip |
Ditto, but I appreciate when the DVD's have both English and ...original language here... AND the 'orignal translation' as I keep calling it... It annoys me when the Subtitles and ENGLISH Language Track don't line up (or are completely diffrerent)... |

I find it interesting you are doing other things than watching the show, it clearly can't be very entertaining for you.
The original subtitles and the English audio subtitles will be different of course, why is that annoying? They can't be the same, given the dub is always horribly different.
Speaking of subs & dubs, I'm terribly excited from the vocal work I've been hearing from Advent Children, to the point that I can't stop going on about it. I have disgustingly high hopes for that film, and it better not let me down now. I am interested in the English cast, and I look forward to laughing at the dub with glee. (Ever since that trailer I've wondered what the vocal work for FFX and KH was, at least...) |

Well, sometimes I am multitasking to give myself more time for fun. I occasionaly may be writing or cooking for example. It doesn't make it any less enjoyable, but it is nice not having to constantly read the screen. Now, if I have the time, I watch it subbed. |

Well I can't say I've heard that one before, usually people can't be bothered, or just have this werid hate of anything non-English. Still, as much as I hate dubs, they help spread anime around western society, so I suppose I have to like them for some things. |

I can relate to what Rachel is saying though cause I also do all kinds of stuff while watching TV. Most of the time i'm cooking or chatting online, but i listen to what's going on, and just occasionally glance at the TV. If something really is interesting i'll watch, and then continue whatever it is that i'm doing during commercials.
As for Samurai Champloo, I sat down to watch an episode the other night for the hell of it. It wasn't bad, it got me interested enough to decide I wanna watch another episode of it. |

I suppose it is television, although in serialised form. It all comes back to how much you like the show I suppose. For me anime is my favourite media, so I can't do anything else. |

Anime can burn, BURN IN HELL.
ha HA.
It sucks being an artist and seeing how much $ these people get when they hit it big. Bastards. |

I choose to revive this topic using my necromantic powers.
I like dubs, but usually only if I encounter them first. I love the Cowboy Bebop dub, but then again I love Cowboy Bebop more than I love taffy. And I'm a man who loves his taffy...
That said, I love Samurai Champloo, though I've only ever seen the fansubs. I look forward to watching the dub, though, because the guy who was Spike is now Mugen.
I'm about to say something, and I say it with an unblemished record of staunch heterosexuality: I would have sex with that man any day of the week.
