will they make another exact remake of ff7 like they did for ff1 and 2? I don't care if it is for another system, I was just wondering... |

Square-Enix has said many times that they will not port a game if you can already play it on a current system. Because of the playstation 2's backwards compatibility, you can play Final fantasy VII on your playstation 2. In other words, if they DO remake Final Fantasy VII, it will have to be on a Sony console without backwards compatibility. So no, it won't be coming any time soon (if at all). |

Plus, it's still relatively recent, the SNES/NES games are older, and could get polished up without spending tonnes. If you wanted to make FFVII look sexy like FFX, imagine the cost and effort that would be involved. |

I dont think there would be much profit in it... I think advent children is their answer to fan's pleas for another FF7 or remake of it... |
vip |
I beg to differ.....I LOVE FFVII, but i'd rather have a direct remake. don't get me wrong, I think advent Children looks awesome, but i'd rather have the remake than Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus and Before Crisis combined.... |

I agree with LC on this one. I've played through FFVII too many times wishing I had something as meager as enhanced world map textures. The truth of the matter is, of course, as stated, that no Final Fantasy VII remake will occur so long as backwards compatibility to the game is available. Naturally, this is possible now, and will be possible with the next Playstation incarnation, so the chances of any kind of remake are slim to none, though mostly none, and very little slim--if any. |

sure fans would buy it, but it wouldnt bring in new people, and it probably wouldn't make a huge profit considering only the hard core fans willing to spend another $50 on an exact remake of something they already have would get it... thats why I dont think they would remake it... then again I dont work for the company so who knows? |

I think a port of FFVII to the DS would be an interesting proposition. |
staff |
No it wouldn't. You're just in love with the DS.
Maybe we should port Starcraft to the DS, while we're at it? |
staff |
It would be good, if they could port it without fucking it over with asinine touch screen minigames. How about extra content, and making the previous minigames controlled with the touch screen...along with the menu. |

Well it would be better than any of the current offerings the DS has, since I'm probably never going to buy one and all. Although wouldn't they be more inclined to make it for the PSP like Crisis Core? Ah well, it's all good, what will happen will happen, I'll just wait and buy it all. |
|
I'm sure it's possible given the enormous popularity of the game. I've heard many an FFVII fan say that they would prefer a remake far more than any of the current spin-offs. |
|
I certainly would prefer the reamake and think it would be more profitable than the spinoffs, because the game itself is going to capture more new people than various prequels and sequels. I mean, how many people bought FFX-2 that didn't buy FFX? |

again I say... damn straight

Apparently quite a large amount of hotpants loving young males.

The real question is; How many of those sold copies were actually kept and not sold back to the store. |

Well, if they didn't change Tifa or Yuffies outfits then maybe those same guys would center in on it...speaking of, I was flipping through the FF7 manual the other night, and noticed that Tifa's birthday was May 3. I forgot all about it! some FFFanatic I am... |

Considering she's a fictional character I doubt holding any celebration would do much... |

I am hearing rumblings various places of FF7 being remade on the PS3 as one of the launce titles, or shortly thereafter. I'm not sure about this but I'm certainly trying to look into it. |

Well it's certainly being denyed by Square-Enix, they just made an incredibly sexy demo for the PS3. That's all. Anything else is mere speculation. |

A remake of FFVII for the PS2 or PS3 would be the greatest thing since ... since.... FFVII!!
I do not since any justifiable reason why Squaresoft has not done so already. They would make so much by doing so little! The millions and millions who have played FFVII and loved it, will most definitely want to buy a FFVII that is 'tuned-up' graphically. Advent children is excellent but not enough. I mean come on, they have the story and can keep the game in all of its entirety, why not just give it a graphic boost?!
I saw a PS3 test demo that my brother download of the intro to FFVII. It was simply amazing and winded me. It would be a dream come true if a remake was eventually made, and i am going to trya nything i can to get it done either by convincing others or just make it my damned self!
I encourage everyone who wants to see FFVI remade to do anything they can. |

Yeah, FFVI is totally in need of an update, so i'm just gonna walk up to the Square-Enix office running around in circles flailing my arms around until it gets remade, cause that's about all we can do anyways... |

After reading Rahul's comments on a news article on the website, I have pulled back in my positition and now don't give a shit whether one is made or not. The original was brilliant, and I'm more than happy to play it and analyse it again and again. With the advent of Japanese society being taught to me, and a massive academic piece I found on VI-VIII in relation to society at the time, I could do it forever.
A remake COULD be nice, but it could also be a waste of time. As Rahul said, if they start changing things to make it worth it, it will not longer be FFVII. So I'm thinking now more along the lines of 'they probably shouldn't', although I remain mostly unconcerned. |

So many fans of FFVII are always screaming for a remake, or an RPG sequel with cloud, and although a remake would sell well and could end up very nice, the reason to revisit FFVII is not the graphics, but the story. I fell in love with the story, and that is what I want to see explored more fully, although not in the form of sequels. I am extremely apprehensive of Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus, because no matter how cool they look I can't shake this feeling that they won't live up to expectations. FFVII wrapped up everything so nicely, why introduce a new conflict that was never intended to be there?
The prequels, however (if Crisis Core really is a prequel) are a great idea I think. FFVII had a lot of back-story that was never explained, and the back-story is the reason to revisit the FFVII world. We don't need a sequel where Sephiroth comes back for no apparent reason other than that’s what fans want, or where Vincent fights soldiers that ShinRa somehow kept a secret and underground for 3 years, and i personally don't think we need to fuck with the masterpiece just to give it better graphics. I love my FFVII just the way it is.
All I know is with ShinRa, Zack, Tseng, Aeris, etc. there is a lot of back-story that I want to know. Even if I have to pay out the ass to play a cell phone game with shitty graphics, as long as they got the back-story right (which shouldn't be too hard as long as it is not inconsistent with what little was in FFVII). I can't wait to see the origins of ShinRa, Avalanche, the relationships between Tseng Aeris and Zach, Personally, I might even like to see some back story before BC takes place, like the war with Wutai and Sephiroth as a war hero.
If they try to throw new story arcs into both the prequels and the sequels, then a remake is warranted, because it will make no sense if that shit is in all but the original. Sequels should have been left to the imagination, but there is a ton of back-story that was just barely mentioned in the original. We know its there, I think that is what we should see. As a fan of FFVII's story, sequels and remakes just don't seem necessary.

Well if you are a true fan of FFVII's story then you wouldn't want a sequel at all. Given the lack of actual ending to FFVII there is no cause for alarm at the idea of media that further enrich the world. I see no reason to have such discontent for the games before playing them. If they are crap, they are crap, but it will never ruin the original experience you had, so either embrace the new titles or watch them slide on by. |
|
ok you obviously did not get my point. I don't want any sequels, despite what most fans want. That was basically what my whole long post was about. Of the three things fans have been wanting (prequel, sequel, or remake) I was saying that the prequel seemed like the best idea, but even that seems unnecessary. I do not have any "discontent" for these unreleased games, I have apprehension, meaning I want them to kick ass but I'm afraid they won't.
As for this lack of an actual ending to FFVII that you mentioned, I liked the way that they left it somewhat open to interpretation. I actually thought it was wrapped up quite nicely, what with sephiroth dead and the lifestream destroying the meteor threat.
I was simply stating my opinion, which is rather neutral to the whole sequel idea, much like the opinion you stated just before my first post on the subject. I wasn't trying to dis the upcoming compilation of FFVII. |
staff |
Well regardless of your intent by discussing this you are discussing the compilation. As I said, if you don't want to play them, let them slide on by. I for one will try the games and the movie, regardless of my apprehension for said titles. At the end of the day if they suck, so be it, I don't really care. That said I will still try them, rather than shake in my boots and feel that they shouldn't be there. Just wait, and then yell and scream about how they shouldn't have been made after they come out, and I may join you on that. |

Didn't you get the memo? Shinra originated in Final Fantasy X-2! |
