I saw the game at the nearest EB Games for $30 and before I jump on purchasing it, I figured I'd ask around here to see if it's worth picking up for that price.
I have picked up FFVII and Xenogears and have kind of begun playing through them again, and I guess that's kicked my PS1 RPG interest again (that and I still have a PS1, the PS2 is long gone...)
How is it? Is it fun to play? Annoying as hell? etc etc...
What is the game worth? Is $30 too much? -Too little? -Just right?

SO2 is easily one of my favorite games, you might be able to get it for a little less than 30 bucks on ebay (used) or something but that's a good price for its level of awesomeness.
Well I guess it depends on what you like, but if you enjoyed Star Ocean 3 then I would think that you would enjoy it a lot as well. In fact, I've heard a lot of fans of the series say that they prefer SO2 over the latter. |

haven't had the opportunity to play SO3, no PS2 to play it on... Which might benefit my ignorance/stupidity... so I get to enjoy a good game... |

SO3 is better to play, and has the more epic plot, but you should really play SO2 first to appreciate how incredibly badly SO3 ruins everything. |

am I the only one that thinks SO2 was kinda crappy? I meran it was decent but.. eh, nothing grand about it. The character development is nothing to brag about, the music is so-so, the pre-rendered bg's are kinda nice, voice acting sucks, the story is decent...if short, cooking is fun, if anything learning new abilities is the best, combat is dated and confusing.
For 30 bucks, you might enjoy it, but I bough it for the same price and while I dont really regret it, I dont vouch for its purchase |

Back in 1999 it was pretty decent. But SO3 was decidedly better, even though they still haven't nailed it. :( |

If you want absolute gaming perfection from Tri-Ace, get Valkyrie Profile. But if you don't have $60 to blow on a used game, get SO2. It has alot more variety than SO3, and has the more traditional RPG aspects like a world map, random encounters, and secret unlockables. |

Cool, I might attempt to pick it up.... I assume it's still there, and I'll pick it up... Just too much RL shit going on today to run off and pick it back up... |

So how exactly did SO3 ruin everything, because I have to agree with TRS, SO2 wasn't that great so there wasn't really much to ruin.
P.S. Get SO2 Meth there is some pretty good gaming to be had in that game |

Story-wise, SO3 pretty much undoes the plot of the entire Star Ocean universe and makes you feel like you wasted your time going through the previous incarnations. |

But Rahul, if everyone in that universe really and truly believes in their existance with all their heart and mind... well they must exist right?...*cough*...

I actually did think the same thing when I got up to the plot twist, OMG, everything is gay and pointless but then I did some thinking and I felt it wasn't so bad. At least it explains all the random monsters lying around waiting to kill people and crazy dungeons and people. The thing is does it really matter if it really is like that, the main characters did act out on their own decisions, it was supposed to be completely self-contained without any interference and that's why Blair was pissed at Luther. To put it perspective you have to really think if we were in the characters' situation. Does that mean our entire life was a waste of time, no, was all of our ancestors' achievements and history pointless, I don't think so.
Anyway it is only a game anyway, you could always find every copy in the entire world and burn them all and say it never existed or maybe if you could believe it doesn't exist and everyone else believes it doesn't exist then it doesn't exist. |
