So, Halo 3 releases this tuesday. I know everybody here enjoys squenix games, but who else is totally psyched about its release?

and more importantly, who else is going to be hiding behind thier tv's until midday thursday when you finally beat it on legendary? Or am I the only one who's enough of a loser to do that?

Meh, gimme Unreal 3 or TF2.

Not looking forward to just a mere a decent single player and a homophobe racist 15 year old filled multiplayer.

Halo got where it is today because it was the right game that X-Box fans needed at that time and because of its control scheme, which was innovative ... then it just got silly with pretending "dual handling" was something GoldenEye didnt do. The fact that Master Chief is the posterboy for games today is even more ridiculous, talk about overhyped ... but eh, people like what they like.

Will still buy it at some point, just not high on the game priorities.

I gotta say, the advertising and promotions for Halo were amazing. Especially the effin monument. I don't even have an xbox and I got excited for the game a bit.

I am totally Spoiler Warning! Highlight to read: [un]psyched!!!!!

I've been reading some preliminary reviews and apparently the story is very overwrought and pretentious, so I think I'll skip. The first Halo was good because they didn't know what would happen; it could be a hit or not. Now it's got this air around like like Xmen 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and Spiderman 3 had: we're going to rock the kasbah regardless of what we do, so we might as well be cheap fuckers and do whatever appeals to everyone rather than what's right for the series.

I'm happy, at least, that this year finally closes off years of repetitive futuristic FPS sequels with Metroid Prime 3 and Halo 3. So those devs can move on and show us whether they have more up their sleeves than just duplicating a random success from 5 years ago.

I'm not going to purchase it, but I won't say I don't want to play it. I'm not a huge Halo fan, but I do have both Halo and Halo 2. I never really got into the huge Xbox live Halo FPS vibe, I just played the campaign and pretty much moved on.
The only thing I'm concerned about is the Storyline. The whole Multiplayer mode will be played, but by me and my brother's. Nothing special really.
Only thing I want to know is......where the hell are the Elites? In every advertisement, you've seen nothing but the Brutes. Did the Elites get wiped out? Where they exiled from the Covenant forces? Just some of the few questions I want answered.......

Absolutely! Now that Retro is taking a break from Metroid I'm excited to see what else they can do. I can't imagine anyone else doing better with the series since they took control. I think they probably have some real talent, but I guess we'll find out for real when we see the fruits of their next project (liable to it not being an FPS).

Well at least X-Men 2 was somewhat worthy of the title X-Men and didn't frickin sell out everything the comics stood for in 90 minutes!!

Specially considering X-Men 1 was shit.

Hey, I'm looking forward to opening the store on Tuesday... and watching all those under-17 year old kids try to buy Halo 3 by themselves... I love the fact that we card for Mature rated games, if not for the smug satisfication that comes from knowing that there's one less flaming fucktard of a mouthy little shit on X-box live to detract from someone's enjoyment of the Multi-player experience...

But that's just me...

I love that I don't get carded when buying alcohol, but still get carded when buying M rated games.

As for Halo? I still say it's only popular because it's not set in WWII.

Man, not a whole lot of support. Not even for the forge levels? that is some serious innovation when it comes to multiplayer games. little omnipotent dude flying around spawning tanks on top of people's heads. I'm going to have more fun than I probably should just dropping tanks on my buddies heads.

Basically, I blame Halo more than I blame CS for the massive boom in FPS game. Since FPS is probably my least favorite genre of game, I am rather bitter.

yeah, it totally sucks. i was surprised how much i liked Metroid Primes.

Well, metroid is more of a classic platformer than it is an FPS. After actually playing through the Halo3 campaign, while I still firmly stand behind it as a fantastic game, it felt like i've played it before. After a while i forgot i was playing a new game it felt so much like halo2. Even some of the missions seemed very similar.

I also though, got a chance to play on multiplayer a good amount, and it is very clear that the only real replay value is multiplayer. I spent 3 (yes, 3) hours doing nothing but using the forge mode to drop tanks and other large and explosive things on my roommate. If every other thing in this game sucked ass, hurling a tank into somebody else is just that satisfying, that it's worth it.

I think that's the biggest problem. People love playing Multiplayer FPS games, but hasn't it always been the storyline that makes a great game?
I think the Bungie and the rest of the Halo staff need to stop working so hard only on Multiplayer mode. Yes, it's great, and yes I love playing multiplayer. But if there's no story to the game, I'll definately think twice before buying it. But of course, that's only one man's way of thinking.
pixel
I think what bungie has been able to show us is that game play is what makes video games. Which is probably why there are so many people old fogies saying video games are not an art form.
pixel
Exactly!
Fuck what everyone else thinks, video games are definately a form of art. I can't even fathom how many hours are spent, wasting away at all the technical aspects of even the most common video games! Creating a video game, is surely, like painting a beautiful masterpiece.
