Now, I love FF7, it's one of my all time favourite RPGs...yet for the life of me, I have only completed this game once, putting over 100+ hours into it. Now, I've started several new games...not a one of them ever finished. I think the farthest I got was re-entering Midgar.
It always seems like a good idea at first, but as I start, I remember all the tedious things, Example:
Kalm Flashback (It's awesome the first time you see it...then it just degenerates to laying on the couch and pressing circle alot)
Desert Prison (Pain in the ass if you accidentally step the wrong way and end up in that repeating area.)
The entire snow area (The whole passing out thing is not fun...not fun at all, especially when trying to get Alexander.)
This is the only game I can think of at the moment I have this problem with. Hell, I played through 8 3+ times.
Anyone else have a similar story? |

This topic should be named "games that were once awesome but have aged poorly due to advances in game design". Final Fantasy VII was, while critically received for its storytelling execution and graphics, hardly the epitome of game design. If you go back to FFX after playing FFXII you'll likely note the same. |

True, each game brings the developer more experience and ends up giving the player a better time as well. Then again, I have never had this problem with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I must have finished that game like 8 times at least, I'm not entirely sure.
To be honest I've never restarted and finished a Final Fantasy game before, I just don't have the time. However I shall endevour to do this with FFVII next holidays, even if it kills me. |

yeah, im with you rache, VII is great and all.. but not more than once for me
another bunch:
xenogears: its great and awesome but the fighting every .3 seconds while ona gear GETS ON MY NERVES, that, and trying to do some dungeons with the uber-lame platform shit built onto it
breath of fire 2: awesome awesome awweesome, but dont have the goddamn opatience for that difficulty level
ducktales: I used to be able to play that shit nonstop, now 5 minutes and thats cute
killer instinct: this was the be all end all game back then, now I just plain suck at it and my initial patience wears thin quickly
theres more, but I forget... :( |

I love Xenogears to death and all, but the encounter rate is absolute shit. I don't think I would have replayed it as much as I have without hacking the encounter rate to make it slightly lower (with gameshark).
The only places the platforming really pissed me off was Babel Tower and the second Anima Dungeon. |

I pretty much do the same with all of my FF games, I complete it once and have high hopes for going through it again, but then I think, why? |

Xenogears would be even greater if it had the CT system (i.e., enemies on the field screen). Alas, the encounter rate (and the absurd amount of time it takes to scroll through text) makes one playthrough about all I can take.
The main RPG I've had this problem with was Star Ocean 2. Since you can play the story from two different perspectives, you'd think it be a fun experience, but...not so much. The only real difference is that instead of Dias blowing you off, he blows you off and then says screw it and joins the party anyway. |

"Piece of junk." |

As much as I didn't like FFIX, I recently (as in this year) started a new game....I got to the third disc and just stopped. I tried beating all of the Soul Reaver games for a second time and the only one I can seem to get all the way through is Defiance, the others just frustrate me (even though i've already beaten them...) |

You know, after unlocking all the voice files, I realised you could make a pretty randy audio porn out of them.
You could also make it pretty kinky, since in one of them Precis barks like a doggie. |

Replaying games that I love, but can't replay..... that goes to everything I play, though if a new game is coming out that is related to it I will replay it, to pass the time when the new game is release.
A example would be when XS Ep.I was about to be release I replay XG, and I also did kind of the same with XS Ep.I when XS EpII was about to be release, the thing I did was I didn't replay Ep.I but I did level up to level 99 so I would be able to carry my save on the next episode full force, but that didn't really matter, but what ever I had nothing better to do.
Also the only time I replay games that I love is when a memory card goes bad or I accidentally erase a game save, thennnn I have to play it again, most of the time though. |

hmm... one game i loved playing through a couple of times, but now could never play again: MGS2. my second time through, i ran around in arsenal gear for like an hour and a half my second time through, and barely brought myself to finish it. It's just not as fun as the original, and none can beat MGS3. |

xenosaga 1 , i love it so much but its just so long ... thats why i love the bonus disk that i got with xenosaga 2!! |

My problem with redoing RPG's like that is that I just don't have the time to go through all the RPG's that are coming out as it is, without redoing old ones as well.
Thus, I have come up with a reeeaally expensive solution. Get a mem card for all the RPG's you really like, and save at all of the good parts that you would want to revisit, so that you don't have to go through the tedium of the Temple of the ancients or the Kalm Flashback, you can just skip to whichever part of the game you would prefer. |
|
I'd have to go with Final Fantasy X. It was one of my most enjoyable games in the series for awhile, but after I went though beating all the Arena enemies, getting all the ultimate weapons, and finally beating the game I found that I really couldn't bring myself to play it through aagain. |

The problem with that is if you run out of room on your mem card then you have the problem of deciding which savegames to cull. |

I always wanted to beat xenogears, but i sucked at it, i mean i really sucked.
I got stuck on Calamity and quit.
As for KI, im still the king of that game. Cinder>Everyone else.
Bow to his cheap ass tactics. |

I did, too, for years. Then I tried leveling up, and tryed casting Wild Smile; It worked, whadayaknow?
My worst is Valkyrie Profile... I beat it twice, got the A & B ending, but I had the gameshark so I was pretty much being a demigod thru the whole extra dungeon thing... After such omnipotent-like power, I jes can't do it anymore... |
|
mmm, knights of the old republic is one i love but have never replayed all the way through. FFVIII is also another one |
vip |
I replayed FFVIII a couple years ago and realized I didn't understand shit the first time through in terms of the battle/junction system, the first time I played I found the game and the enemies so damn hard, the second time through it was so bloody easy... see eventually I'll get it... it just takes a couple times... damn roots... |
