If nobody cares about Society and/or culture (as the thread's name implies) then what is there to discuss ?

I will attempt to clarify.

Discuss the statement "Nobody cares about society and/or culture", not actual society and/or culture. The only correct continuation of this thread must consist of not discussing society or culture, or you'll prove the theory false and warp all spacetime out of proportion, which will lead to the universe imploding and being rewritten with Matt as the Creator of All Things.

Maybe in your sick little Tri-Ace world, Rachel, but in the real world, this isn't the case. I'm sorry to bring it to you but Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile were MADE UP. And not even MADE UP particularly well!

Off topic, but... when the hell has THAT stopped anyone from posting on the SHMFoD?
But, Rachel... you have Valkyrie Profile? I have been looking for that game for a while now... I found it one day at the local used game shop, a gal had just brought it (and a mess of other games) into the store to sell... I looked at it and asked John about it... Turns out that the game sells around $70+ bucks on ebay... don't believe me?
Valkyrie Profile on Ebay...

I missed my chance (albeit an expensive chance) and now I'll never get to play it... :(

OK, get back on topic ....

That reminds me of an episode of Jackie Chan Adventures, where Jackie was that crazy dragon's personal servant. But Jade told him the what-what, yo.

Yes, it's one of my all-time favourite games. I'd never consider selling it, but then again, I don't sell games. Unless they suck. I'm looking at you, X-Files, Megaman X5, and Oni.

Oddly enough, all of those games were gifts.

"As part of SOCIETY NOT PART OF ME!" "SOCIETY SOCIETY lets get rid of it 1234!"

This thread has me singing a old song from a band called Circle One.

Anyway each person who has PC is like a little kingdom. Who wants to rule and destory everything. At the end of the day all people want in society is to talk, understand, and express to someone. Also to answer the "Why" question to everything. Like we all want to know.

If society doesn't matter....I'm confused.....don't all anti-social creatures have little societies of people in their head's?......and if so, wouldn't that society matter then? Or maybe I'm the only one that the voices speak to....not that I can ever understand them.....freakin' japs....

Ahem... society is needy. And arrogant. And ignorant (classical definition: uninformed). Culture (I am tending to believe) is largely made up of whatever movement there is at the time that's popular, combined with the history structural upbringing of those people. Part of my problem with it is that order decays into disorder - people and society are no different. I do care just enough about society and culture that it completely disinterests me in the people that represent any of it. Mainly because they all irritate me because they think they are the best of what the world has cultivated. Lap tops, ritual coffee mugs, expensive cars, cell phones, flashy jewelry... it all disinterests me because people try to individualize themselves with things they can buy to 'show who they are,' thus comforming. Never mind. I'm spiraling into the trends of outwardly-oriented people, who have the capacity to ignore situations in favor of all-consuming vanity.

I know. I sound like a prick. I wish I had more finesse to not sound to trite whenever I write.

You should play Metal Gear Solid 3.

Part of my problem with it is that order decays into disorder - people and society are no different.

Or you could assume disorder as the base state, and assume the order is an attempt to unnaturally structure something so our feeble minds can interpret them more easily. But the universe is chaotic by nature. One of the many interesting things about humanity is their apparent striving to go against the tide of evolution -- no other being in the world does that.

But watch your cynicism and hypocrisy meters as you say these things, or you'll end up doing a Fight Club monolo--

Never mind.  I'm spiraling into the trends of outwardly-oriented people, who have the capacity to ignore situations in favor of all-consuming vanity.

Too late. :(

That's what this forum is for! And you can never be more trite than Rachel, Matt or myself.

or TRS, if you really want to point fingers, but again, let's get back on topic...SQUIRRELS!!!!!
pixel
But do those squirrels know that no one is allowed to touch them in their bathing-suit area?

Rahul - You're definitely right. Our base state is represented as nothing more than animalistic, with a little more foresight. And what more have people as a whole tried to do than advance/improve ourselves with, as a summary, civilization? Reading, writing, clothing, manners; they're all ways to push down or tame the innate beast. But for as much as any society may have evolved by creating tools to ease their existence (refrigerators as opposed to hunting or gathering daily), how much devolution has been suffered from lack of any stimulation, due to continuing ease of living? Calculators, cars, grocery stores, spell check. Societies have grown fat and dim and will squall at the thought of not having an every-day convenience. Come on - who really needs an apple corer? But it makes things easier. And, especially with a media-based economy (stupid, freaking United States), the push is to have more, more, more. He who dies with the most toys wins.

I'm going to shut up for a while and stop the rants. I apologize, for I've missed you all so much! Working approximately 60-70 hours a week in one job where for 40 hours you care for people because they were stupid/lazy/fat and got hurt and a second job where you work 20-30 hours to cater to people's never-ending desire to BUY AND OWN (retail at Target, need I say more?) tends to leave you tired and bitter. But then again, I was already good at the bitter part. I love you, SHMFoD ^_^
