You sound like a god damn advertisement.

I've been wanting to get my hands on some of RHCP's shit. Muse I never gave a proper chance, and the same with The Mars Volta. I heard some things by Arctic Monkeys...sounds like something that is definitely enjoyable.

Something else I've been listening to on sporadic occasions: Pelican.

Pelican, ISIS, Explosions in the Sky and Other Side of the Sky are very progressive, textural doom/sludge rock/metal. I don't know how you tend to feel about that sort of thing (but considering you enjoy Tool, and ISIS is known for supporting Tool on many an occasion, they may be worth checking out).

WHY DID I SPELL THIS TOPIC'S TITLE INCORRECTLY? IT DRIVES ME FUCKING MAD.

I've been meaning to check out ISIS, yeah

RHCP: I only really enjoy their latest album Stadium Arcadium because it is polished to the point of being a perfect record
Muse is just something that belongs in your playlist if you exist in this century and listen to rock music
TMV is probably the most acquired taste band I listen to aside of CoF, they're very hard to get into and sometimes even for fans hard to listen to but definitely rewarding. Just view it as something that is equally inaccessible as CoF and you can step over the insane unlistenable experimentation and voicework
Arctic Monkeys is just good, simple pop/rock with memorable melodies and interesting straightforward lyrics. I would recommend the newer album as the musicianship on that album is superior to their breakthrough record.

ISIS I would definitely...DEFINITELY recommend. I would say that their albums "Panopticon (2004)" and "In the Absence of Truth (2006)" are absolutely essential. They started off in the hardcore genre, but eventually made their way to the post-rock/metal.

TMV always sounded to be a very artistic, yet insane, after-project. When you say acquired taste, I think Furze: a one man, bizarro-post-black-metal band named after a fucking plant...with an album named Necromanzee Cogent. I think after enduring the pain of listening to that and ultimately finding something worth listening to in that heap of insanity, I believe I could listen to anything.

Except, of course, "terror".

By the way, I don't think I ever asked you what you thought of "In Sorte Diaboli"? I'll say one thing. The material really holds it's own live.

My brother listens to terror! It's like considering the grindings of factory machinery to be melodic. Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom. TERROOOOORR!!!

I never really got to listen to In Sorte Diaboli, because the only place I can really listen to music anymore is at work and the guys don't really appreciate me blasting symphonic black metal, and my girlfriend isn't particularly fond of me blasting any kind of music at all and is offended when I put headphones on because then I'm ignoring her. So. Perhaps one of these days I'll go on a trek to Russia by myself, with only my trusty ipod shuffle to help me. And then I will listen to In Sorte Diaboli and other metal shenanigans that average folk consider too insane.
