"you work hard, get into college, get a good job, otherwise, you get stuck in iraq" -- John Kerry

something like that.

A US Army unit from Iraq responded: "Hlep us jhon kery. We r stuk in irak!"

Then suddenly Hillary eats them all and the war was over.

THE END

As far as voting goes, I'm not voting. Not one resent politician has been someone worth voting for. (Hillary? I mean come on..)

Our form of government doesn't work unless people actively participate in the political process. In a Representative Republic, our political leaders are mandated to vote according to the people they are supposed to represent, and for far too long these leaders have not been given this mandate. When less than half the population votes, their given right to speak for us and adequately represent the people no longer exists. As a result, powerful interests like corporations and Non-Governmental Organizations (such as the American Cancer Society, a non-profit that spends millions and millions of its doners' money on federal lobbying) step in and fill the vacuum.

This is America and you can do as you please, RicardHighwind. As for me, I'm not going to let Microsoft and ACS steal my voice -- I'm going to vote because it's my right and my civic obligation to do so.

*loves Matt* I never understood the logic of "I hate it so therefore I am going to sit here and do nothing!"

I agree with you, we do need someone to lead this country, but my vote alone will not change the governments decision (And yes, I know if everyone acts this way, its not good) But I do believe in choosing the right politician. I just don't know who to trust anymore, its lies back and forth from both parties. I do believe in voting lol, and I will vote when I believe the time is right.

I can tell by your dumb response that you either didn't read or comprehend my reply.

If you can't find someone you trust, admire, or even want to fuck, then you're not looking hard enough. You NEVER, EVER have the choice between only two candidates since there's something called a "write-in." If you don't like Clinton or Giuliani because they're both assfaced douchebags, vote for someone else - ANYONE you want - anyone who you feel can adequately echo your voice.

Democracy is not something we have, it's something we do.
pixel
Yeah, its a democracy, and part of that democracy is my choice not to vote. By me doing that, I'm practicing our democracy, so don't tell me I'm not. I never said my choices were between two parties.. or that I don't know what a fucking ballot looks like.
pixel
Yes Ricard, by not voting is certainly your right. But just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean it is the right thing to do.

Basically, you are the sort of person that is causing the deterioration of this society. You want things fixed buy you have no solutions. And to add to that, you are not looking for someone that can (or becoming that person yourself). Instead you sit with your thumb up your ass and complain how nothing gets done and that everything is going to shit.

One of the best things the Republicans were able to do for themselves was to convince their youth party members that voting is a good thing.
pixel
Wrong. You don't know what kind of person I am, or who I am for that matter. I know what kind of person I am, and I don't need someone on a Final Fantasy forums to tell me otherwise.

fucking greedy bastards don't deserve to live.

You're right Ricard, I don't know what kind of person you are. So let's get to know you. What other civic activities do you participate in, or have participated in recently?
pixel
I participate in volunteering in the Minnesota Licensed Family Child Care Association, Inc. http://www.mlfcca.org/ program where I live, a program created for kids to do something after school. I come in twice a week with something new for the kids to do, like last week I brought in my Wii for everyone to play, they really enjoyed it. A different time I brought in my old camera's and we made movies. I don't do much participating in politics besides watching MSNBC, and that doesn't make me any less of a person. What about you? What do you participate in?

You're lucky that you even have the right to not vote. There are so-called democracies in our world (like Australia) that actually force the eligible constituency to cast a vote in every election. Like I mentioned before, active political participation is necessary in our form of government, but compulsory elections are not the right way to attain real and meaningful participation.

Your community service record is impressive, RicardHighwind, but I'm more worried about your voting record. Your participation in the political direction of your country - however minuscule it may be - is the most important thing you can do if you sincerely wish the bring about the change that you want.

There's a candidate selector where you choose the issues important to you and it will show you your compatibility. Check it out here -> http://www.selectsmart.com/president/2008.html

Right, because only Democrats do that. Not only that, all Democrats do that. Because Bush's Republican GOP has been the most anti-fascist government in American history. Because Democrats don't deserve to li-...

Oh wait. That's right. Saying that a massive group of people doesn't deserve to live because of their political beliefs is utterly fucking psychotic. The rest isn't psychotic, just zealous and patently insubstantial.

Jump in a time machine to the European mid-twenties to thirties, when leftists and rightists bashed each others' brains out in the streets. You'd be right at home, I'm sure.
pixel
no, anyone who fits into that category is a fucking greedy bastard that i'd like to shove a knife through.
pixel
Well, as long as there is no actual knife shoving, then that is fine. If you do really plan on shoving knives, you are doing a poor job at it because there are too many people walking around right now that fit into that category :D

Wait, I'm confused. I had always interpreted it that the republicans were the greedy ones, the ones who don't like giving their money to help people in need, the wealthiest 1% and the ones who are for big business. Did I miss the switch over? Now I realize not all republicans are money hungry, just as not all democrats are tree hugging liberals. I bet there are a lot of republicans out there that give very generously to charity and don't mind giving up their taxes to help those who can't help themselves, and i bet there are a lot of democrats out there that aren't very generous and hoard their money to buy more stuff they don't need. I guess, possibly, it could be that most people in america define themselves as a democrat of a republican, but not necessarilly as everything both sides are for. I bet a lot of people out there are kind of in the middle, agreeing with topics on both sides of the aisle, but having to choose a title for votings sake. So i guess to want to kill someone based on a political title is a little odd to me, especially when the reason for killing (being greedy bastards) actually fits the opposite party.

No, you're definitely still in the loop, and you're correct that most people are moderate. In fact, I believe that most moderates lean toward the platforms of the Democrats, and the only way Republicans have seized control on a national level is because they take naturally-occurring phenomena and make it into a political issue.

A good example are the marriage amendments that are sweeping the nation. In 47 states of our union, gays absolutely cannot receive the rights and benefits that men and women receive in matrimony, and this has been a fact for the entirety of our nation's history. However, even though they already can't marry, the Republican party has advocated that marriage amendments be passed in each state as well as on the federal level that explicitly identify marriage as only between a man and a woman. They are creating a non-issue status quo - that gays cannot marry - and making it into a politicized election issue. It's a stance that almost all conservative Republicans take, thus forcing the opposing party to take a stance on this non-issue as well.

Why is this even relevant? It's called demagoguery - inciting the passions and prejudices of the people - and it's the wrong way to win in politics. Even worse is that this method has become accepted and widely used, and those that don't also step up and themselves become demagogues lose elections. The Republican party should be a regional party -- it should be confined to its base in the south. However, because they are a party full of demagogues, they have captured "hearts and minds" on a national level.
pixel
So, does that mean it is not coincidence that the very popular Virginia politician Mark Warner who is actually a moderate, runs as a democrat?
staff
pixel
Yeah, probably. I would say the same thing about Jim Webb, too. As for Warner, it probably also has a lot to do with his nice guy disposition; in order to run as a Republican you have to either be a huge fucking angry bigot, or at least pretend that you're one.
pixel
"The Democrats seem to be basically nicer people, but they have demonstrated time and again that they have the management skills of celery. They're the kind of people who'd stop to help you change a flat, but would somehow manage to set your car on fire. I would be reluctant to entrust them with a Cuisinart, let alone the economy. The Republicans, on the other hand, would know how to fix your tire, but they wouldn't bother to stop because they'd want to be on time for Ugly Pants Night at the country club."~Dave Barry

That just about sums it up for me. I really hope its about time for a 3rd party candidate to take an election. no 3rd party candidate has even won an electoral vote since the 60's.

Haha excellent. Lewis Black said
The only thing dumber than a Republican or a Democrat is when these pricks work together. We have a two party system: The Democratic party, which is a party of no ideas, and the Republican party, which is a party of bad ideas.

It sucks, but I guess that's just the way its always been. It's been an undemocratic system composed of two elite parties that's been a political institution since 1797 -- a third faction has never gotten anywhere. The only thing the third party could ever hope to do is spoil an election.

Viva la Revolution!
Like our forefathers!
Like for our best law ever, Seperation of Church and State!
Like for Women's rights, the fight against Segeragation!
To fight against these destructive morals we're ingrained with, find allys, take action!
In the 90s, famine, war, political killing(study some fucking history you brilliant fucking consumer I mean GODDAMN yer just a fucking Nazi)
March 19th 2003 we go into Iraq. Because of WMDs. We're still there? Fucking shit up? =[ Happy Veteran's day.
pixel
well, we were 'there' already. might as well trash thier government, and force ours onto them, bring industry over to further privatize the oil fields and raise prices because they keep bombing our trucks.

I agree something needs to be done, but i EXPECTED us to still be in iraq once they went in. it's this generations Vietnam. We go into an unwinnable situation, and stay there until its mutually agreed that both sides lost. More money and lives will be spent until the current stalemate with the Iraqi people/militants (we can't tell the difference) settles into mutual failure.
vip

Something needs to be done? Mutual Failure? oy... This is the sound of our Republic, we will continue to fuck people, insane, wether they like it or not as long as we bad. mouth. And refuse to change what we are, tho time is running out, to take action. There's no Movement. Some people never change, but get outside of your comfortzone!
And I'm always talking shit, maybe talking myself down in the eyes of some. I'm stressed about life in this world. I'm stressed that my Liberal friends give up and become Conservative Republicans, supporting the Evangelical Cry for Mutual Faith in Govt. I'm sick of thinking that I'd rather move out of this country, run away then support a child here. So I take out this aggression, this hate and put it to a benificial use; forever living life like I've inflitrated the bourgouise mockery of a people's govt. And don't bother if yer gonna pull that "You'll Rebel to Anything" tripe.
