Is there anyone else looking forward to this movie? I'm not sure why I am, I haven't read the series (past the first book, and that was years ago)... But, It's resparked an interest in me to go pick up the series again... Kinda like LotR I guess... But then again... I already had three different versions of that series...
Plus... Alan Rickman AND Warwick Davis play Marvin... Hehe... I guess THAT's where my Ewoks went...
Anyways... official site is HERE |

according to This review, the movie is a 100% bastardization of the book version, which is a real shame, because it had a LOT of potential... |

I'm still gonna see it mostly to see if they include my favourite line from the series...the explaination of how the Babelfish is proof of God's nonexistance. |

Considering that it's mainly impossible to literally translate the book to movie form, I'd like to see this movie based solely on the fact that it is, in fact, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, source of many of the weirdest sci-fi concepts ever conceived, and is therefore worthy of my time. Whether or not they watered it down sufficiently to be able to fit it into a movie isn't relevant in my eyes -- you'll always have naysayers proclaiming their mundane hopes from the luxuriously padded armchair of dreams. |

I think it looks pretty cool! I’m most likely going to go see it. ^_^ |

I'm thinking of heading off to Maplewood today to hit the mall... well, the stripmall NEXT to the Mall anyways... I'm gonna hit a place called "Half Price Books" to see if they have any copies of the Guide... or the series, or the one collection of the inaptly named "Hitchiker's Trilogy"...
How many HHGG books ARE there again? |

You can get the whole series and an extra previously unpublished short story in a collection named The Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide, and it is an amazing value. I have it and the individual books. |
|
I want the collection. Shame I've never found it around here so far. Living in Brazil has this kind of material downside, I guess. =( |

Ouch. Well, there's always eBay
Just make sure the seller will ship internationally and has good feedback. |

Well, looks like I drove 20 miles for nothing... They DID however have "Mostly Harmless" and "Life, the universe, and everything in between" <--not positive on this title at the moment... but I wanted to pick them up in order... so i'll wait for now until i can find it again... |

it's "Life, the Universe and Everything". There are 5 books, and a sixth kind of ancillary/appendix on the side. Yet it's called a trilogy! |

Wasn't that the one that was still on his computer (unfinished) when he (Douglas Adams) died? How did that work out? Is it finished? Who finished it? What is the order of the books?
Why don't I just find a Douglas Adams FAQ? |

Well, I went out to look for the all-encompassing Hitchhiker's Trillogy (even though it's in 5 parts...)... But had no luck. Mind you though, I didn't actually go to Barnes & Noble or any of the big bookstore chains, all I did was hit a small used bookstore. They only had the same two books I mentioned earlier (Life, The Universe, and Everything & Mostly Harmless). However, I stopped by Walmart and decided, "What the hell?". I did find a new paperback edition of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", with a 90-odd page story of getting the "Guide" to the big screen...
I owned the book for 30-odd hours and had it completed... Now, to find a copy of "The Restaraunt at the End of the Universe" and the rest of the 'trillogy'... |

If you'd just go to a Waldenbooks/Borders/Brentano's...you'd find it in the Sci-Fi hardcovers...the whole series for a great price. |
|
And if you get lost I'm sure with all the hype for the movie, if you just walk into borders with a towel over your shoulder then they should point you right to the books. |

I've decided to purchase the series, but haven't decided if I'll do it the cheap way and pick up "the ultimate Hitchhiker's guide" or the expensiver way.. all seperate... or the REALLY EXPENSIVE way... all older hardcovers...
mwahaha...
Oh, saw the movie back on Saturday... sweet movie... I WILL see it again before it gets out of the theater... |

I thought the movie was awesome. Especially because in the TV show Zaphod had two heads side by side ......I love how they did his heads in the movie. I also think they picked the perfect actress (Zooey Deschanel) to play trillian. Also I like how they incorporated the towel since that is such an important part of the story. |

Haven't seen the BBC miniseries... although I have seen a DVD for purchase that I might pick up that contains the whole series for like $40.... |
