Outsourced to behind-the-scenes "ninja" developer TOSE, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker features the Dragon Quest VIII game engine for cell-shaded graphics and archaic turn-based role playing gameplay. Also inherited are the traditional characteristics of the DQ Monsters series: an emphasis on Akira Toriyama's monster designs in conjunction with classic Dragon Quest-esque game mechanics.
