March 28, 2008, Square Haven has ceased updates indefinitely. Don't despair, however; the work started here more than ten years ago continues at Videogam.in.

As previously reported by this site, Final Fantasy VIII was scheduled to ship to retailers one week prior to Square's release date, September 9. Some stores like Toys R Us and Electronics Boutique were scheduled to receive the game on or around August 31st.

The news titillated some fans and made others suspicious. Myself, being the author of the article, became a victim of numerous hate mails and flames from fans mislead by the truth. On the other hand, I was also attacked by a daily and constant barrage of emails from fans demanding to know if FF8 was going to be released early in his or her area, like I would know.

Anyway, the news turned out to be true. Lo and behold we received a shipment of brand new FF8s on our weekly Tuesday pickups at our local Toys R Us in Fairfax, VA. The public has been left clueless to the fact that we have them, however. The reason behind that is a strict demand made by Sony Computer Entertainment of America stating that any and all retailers are to hold any and all copies of Final Fantasy VIII until September 8th. Why? Obviously to take some steam away from Sega's Dreamcast release one day afterwards.

Then why not write a reader review? This topic is not about FFVIII, it's about the article on the early shipment of FFVIII. Stay on topic, please.

Early shipment my ass. I got the game preordered all nice and neat at Target, but alas, on 9.9.99 it wasn't there! So they took off the preorder-price and told me to come in next week.
Came in, STILL wasn't there. Took off the same amount of money. Ended up paying a total of $30 at the counter. Kinda worth it, I guess.
freaking target.

I think you still got ripped off. I think we all got ripped off with Final Fantasy VIII.

I still liked it more than VII or IX, so I have to disagree :D

You have a twisted taste, Xavi. Did FFIX kill your father and rape your mother?

I liked it alright, specially the graphics, but I just didnt care if all the characters died in a fire.

But it has Qina, one of the best characters conceived in the history of fiction. Final Fantasy VIII had... a cowboy or something?

A cowboy with a cool jacket
