Final Fantasy VIII Sales Impress |

Earlier reports stated that Final Fantasy VIII only hit a 175,000 sales mark in the initial release week. This figure failed to impress and turned out to be misleading, as the 175,000 mark was reached by the end of September 9, the day after the release. Reports came in that by Sunday, sales had reached 400,000 nationwide. 400,000 in five days is quite an impressive mark, beating Sega's Dreamcast sales by 100,000 and looking toward outnumbering the one million sales mark set by Final Fantasy VII.
Although Final Fantasy VIII sales in the U.S. seem high, they are still shunned compared to Japan's 2.5 million sold in the same amount of time.
