- Fullmetal Alchemist 2 under development
In a recent issue of Famitsu, Square Enix announced the development of Fullmetal Alchemist 2 for Playstation2, using a celshaded graphics style. The game will presumably connect to the series like the first one did, but other than that, not much is known. - Reports of PS2 hardware peak are incessant "bullshit"

- Bandai to publish Full Metal Alchemist: Dream Carnival
Alongside the announcement of the new PS2 action RPG Full Metal Alchemist: Demon of the Red Elixir (FMA2), Square Enix, sponsor and producer of the original manga and anime, also brought into the limelight the fact that Bandai, responsible for such important franchises as Gundam and Dragonball and in the news this week regarding its relationship with Nintendo, will be publishing Fullmetal Alchemist: Dream Carnival. The title is to be a 3d tag team beat'em up (???), but its target platform is unclear, as is the developer behind it. - Nokia assures N-Gage's perpetual pirouette into dismal mediocrity
Nokia chief strategy officer Matta Alahuhta has reportedly "touted" that N-Gage will accomplish an astounding 40 titles by this Christmas. This achievment comes after Nokia's previous promise that there would be at least 50 to 100 titles available by Christmas. 1UP

Square Enix has confirmed today that Dragon Quest VIII will not only be released this millennium, it may even be released this year. The title has been scheduled for a Japanese release of winter 2004, with some sources predicting a holiday release. Final Fantasy XII is scheduled to follow in spring, but could very well be pushed back to summer (or even later) while Kingdom Hearts II will follow sometime thereafter.

- Cid, Red XIII in Advent Children after all?
After Nomura's musings last month that Red XIII and Cid may not make an appearance in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children for whatever reason, it appears from new scans of Jump magazine that they will show up at some point after all. Aeris was also shown in a magazine last week, and from these current scans, it also appears that Reno and Rude will be fighting against Loz, Kadaj, and Yazoo, presumably alongside Cloud et al.

According to a several day old Microsoft press release concerning the successor to the Xbox, Square Enix is considering development for the platform which should arrive late next year. As the next company down from industry leader Nintendo, Squenix would be a vital addition to the portfolio of the Xbox 2 and almost guarantee its success in Japan as well as overseas. Bloomberg
