Nintendo DSWith more interest in the DS than Nintendo had originally expected, production has been stepped up on the new system, hoping to meet the growing demand.

As the preorders for the Nintendo DS reach the 2 million mark in Japan, Nintendo finds themself in a bind. This number is double the initial prediction made by Nintendo, and with this huge growth in the demand for the system, Nintendo has been backed against a wall. If they don't deliver on time, Japanese customers may very well spend their money on the PSP which comes out a mere 10 days later.

To help accommodate for the demand, Nintendo has brought on a third factory to produce the new system. They have also closed down the majority of internet sites taking preorders, many on the same day they began to take them, November 3rd.

Unfortunately, these steps won't help out the production very significantly. Nintendo, however, hopes to have 2 million units shipped by the beginning of the new year.

Nintendo's sales projection for the DS has grown from 3.5 million to 4 million by the end of the fiscal year.
