Michael Pachter, the industry analyst responsible for studying interactive entertainment trends for leading financial services firm Wedbush Morgan, believes Sony will stick with the PS3 until video games are ready for the next level of immersive interactivity.
"I have said repeatedly that this is the last console 'cycle' as we know them," Pachter told GamesIndustry.biz. He predicts, "In 2010, Sony's going to have 55 per cent, Microsoft's going to have 35 per cent and Nintendo 10 per cent, with all three of those having plus or minus five per cent." The current Sony console will not be supplanted for some time, not "until we are ready for virtual reality or holographic gaming."
In other words, look forward to remembering how we once, back in 2007, played video games on the TV.
