That's right, a surprising new detail has emerged regarding Square Enix's upcoming Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions. What could they be showing off? The answer may surprise you. Indeed, it isn't a slew of new information, nor is it a gem of a gameplay trailer. Sorry, Final Fantasy VII fanboys, it's no confirmation of Sephiroth as a playable character either. What we have here are a new batch of localized screenshots with a surprising twist.

At E3, a playable version of the localized Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions was unveiled. A few screenshots have leaked into the online world. Although they may appear typical as one glances through the thumbnailed images below, a closer look leads to revelation: the game's script has been retooled in many spots, allowing for a polished presentation more suitable for the realm of Ivalice. In the boldest specimen, a once-generic death threat has been transmuted into flowery linguistics.

Other notable, previously announced revampments include two new job classes: the Onion Knight and Dark Knight. In addition, support for various multiplayer features have been confirmed; with the PSP's wireless connectivity capabilities, players may declare war on their rivals and partake in strategic 'versus' battles, or even aid one another in 'cooperative' online play. The War of the Lions also flaunts the inclusion of cutscenes, whose facades reveal a loyalty to the original character designs of Akihiko Yoshida. Indeed, the video sequences retain the artistic style that characterized the original Final Fantasy Tactics while simultaneously breathing life into the title with added dimension and animation. Although it was shown prior to this year's E3, an introductory cutscene has been included below to give readers a taste of what to expect from these new sequences.

Being a humble port of the original Final Fantasy Tactics, the plot will indeed follow the same course. That is, it will trace the path taken by characters Ramza Beoulve and Delita Hyral in their attempts to foil the corrosive grip held by the nobility in the decaying land of Ivalice. However, with an assortment of new features, Square Enix ensures that owners of Final Fantasy Tactics will indeed have something to gain from the title's PSP incarnation. Interested? Keep a weather eye on the horizon; the game is expected cross the ocean and reach North American retailers come October 9 of this year.
