Noooooo! The Chrono Trigger Resurrection project, a fan-made demo of what Chrono Trigger may look like in full 3d on a current generation console, has been shut down by Square Enix, states the website. This immediately ends the progress of the project which was looking pretty damn good. Too bad. Good luck to the team with their future projects.

My waning opinion of Enix just lessened. That's right, Enix.

Not Square.

Enix.

That's bullshit. I can't believe they pulled that. Why can't they see the good in these things? ugh. So sad.
pixel
I an see where SE is coming from by shutting them down, but still sucks major balls. I was looking forward to see the final outcome of this project.
pixel
maybe if you called it chrono resurrection instead of chrono trigger resurrection and changed the names of some of the characters that you could say it isnt about chrono trigger hence breaking no copyright laws and you could still keep the game
pixel
this sucks i wanted it to work damn
pixel
where's my comment why was it deleted omfg.
i said and i repeat that stfu you all, square has their own rights :P delete this and suffer a world of .. pain?
pixel
I think it may have been deleted when square haven was having server problems. I noticed mine wasnt showing up until a week after the site was stable again...

How much of a moron are you people? Someone said they were angry at Enix, not Square? If you look back on things, the team that created the original Chrono Trigger were laid off from Squaresoft. They were the creative minds behind the game. They went and made a company called... You ready for this?... ENIX! After Squaresoft made an amazing screw up with the horrid FF movie, they almost went bankrupt. And Enix, with their vastly growing popularity (most likely because of their creativity, rather than sticking with all of one series to keep them alive, and a series that got weaker and weaker with each new release) and vastly growing economically, decided to help the company that once didn't help them, and they bought Squaresoft so it could stay alive.

You say you're mad at Enix? Good job there, Think Tank.

Anthropes, I'm afraid I have to break one of two things to you: you have either been grossly misinformed or your assumptions have made you look like a gargantuan ass. For one thing, Enix was around long before Square was -- they practically invented the fucking console RPG. Final Fantasy is a theoretical ripoff of Dragon Quest. Second, both Square AND Enix collaborated to develop Chrono Trigger. Third, and as far as I?m aware, CT's developers weren't laid off, they left the company altogether. And they most certainly didn't fucking form a company that had already existed for 10 years prior.
pixel
Saddening. I was shaking my head just now while looking at the screenshots. They really had something going with this project... now watch enix pull this out of their bag three years down the road and deny any affiliation with this group of talented people.
pixel
Now this would have been just fucking great...

Not that sequel to Drakengard 2. Graceful way of spending money, it is. :(
pixel
why couldn't the team just join up with square-enix and release it that way?
staff
pixel
Yeah, I don't think it's that simple...
pixel
Yeah, it probably isn't that simple. It's probably much simpler to enforce a cease-and-desist order and send every of these guys' minutes of spendid work to the nearest limbo... a shame, indeed.

But oh, weren't those images looking sweet?
staff
pixel
Sure were! I watched that video they had, with Magus in it, and I thought about how cool the project would have ended up had they had the opportunity to complete it.
pixel
What a rip-off. I REALLY liked the Chrono series, and Chrono Resurection looked superb. Ah, well. I'm just hopeing they make some kind of Chrono Cross 3.
staff
pixel
How about Chrono Cross 2 first, then?
staff
pixel
How about a PAL release of Chrono Cross so I can play that first?
staff
pixel
How about you learn to import and stop bitching!
staff
pixel
Import and get one of those illegal mod chips that are becoming increasingly hard to get because of stupid court cases.
staff
pixel
Or just import an original playstation to go with the game; they come surprisingly cheap these days.

pixel
It's ok folks, I found someone on campus at university with the game, I love it. I've played roughly 5 hours or so, but stupid 'work' seems to be taking over the game. The translation is the most solid I've seen in a really long time for a video game, but this isn't a review, so I'll stop there.
pixel
Yeah, you can always write a reader review later. :)

Talking about Chrono Cross, I think I'll just play it again.
pixel
I am astonished yet not really suprised that this would've happened. I mean I can see Square-Enix's reason for copyright issues but you know what I would've done? Looking and see how well the game looked and realizing it was near completion I would've just hired the team and published their game and make money. Then guess what... well the group would have a kick'n job, I would be making loads of cash, and the fans would be happy and rejoice. Yeah I can see how Square-Enix sees it but I still think it could've been a major loss in sales. I could've easily seen this title for the PS3 release.

maybe a petition is in need?
