"Fans can rejoice", says Square Enix, because a port Final Fantasy IV for GBA will arrive in the US on December 12th. On top of that, "additional game elements have been added", including "new towns, caves and mountains". Even though I can't remember exactly how many the original had, the GBA version will sport 12 playable characters with "new abilities, spells and items" and who "join and leave the party at different parts of the quest to keep the game fresh." No word yet as to whether the graphics have been polished up to match those of FFI-II.

There were 12 in the original.

(I guess we gotta fix the CSS a little.)

Ok, go for it.

Apparently remakes sell less than original titles, I don't know why they'd be releasing old games... =P

Don't be a smart ass. In the case of a GBA remake (which is based on the Wonderswan remake anyway), it's a matter of maximised ROI since the investment is minimal (porting code that was already developed). All that will be done for this game is the rewrite from WSC's code to that which GBA supports. In the case of FFVII, it's writing something from scratch. So take your reverse intelligence and go bug Nephtis with it; I'm not interested.

please don't post successively

God you're retarded. You point out the fact that I'm being a wise ass, then you go ahead and defend it as if I'm serious. I'm well fucking aware of how the industry makes mass profits off of ports. I do own a PSP you know. You don't have to be such a dick at life.

Anyways, on topic, I wonder if it's gonna be the raped US version, or the actual Japanese translation. The American release was rediculous compared to the fan translation. I'd much prefer to see it not get Americanized when it came over again.

Ya know, the funny part is the graphics were updated in those to match 4/5/6. Chances are if these, it won't be a huge notable difference.

You thought I was serious? I haven't been serious on this website in my life.

Sooo retarded and in denile. Let's see, Square would actually take the old SNES butchering of a localization over the newer one (for FF Chronicles).

The graphics of the Dawn of Souls ports are a bit closer to FFVI quality than to FFIV. FFIV could use the polish.

Well at least Nintendo finally found something to push their GBMicro sales. God knows we all need GBMicros.
pixel
"it won't be a huge notable difference."

The reason I put that is because it's upgraded, but not by a whole ton. It's the difference of having $8 and $10. Sure you got $2 more, but there's not a whole lot more you can do with it.

And Rahul, shut up. You sat there and lectured to me how the system works. You can't take it back.

Um, Christopher, It may be a big difference, considering this game seems more based for new players than it does people who've played the game as much as I have, anyway. Let's be real: Most people are graphics whores, and making it look at all prettier will increase profits. Thus, it shall be done.

I wasn't arguing that it'd be a huge difference (the likely improvement in graphics). I was just saying that the difference between IV and VI is worth noting.

Christopher7xii: you shut up, poo-face! I took it back and there's nothing you, your mom, your dad, your dead dog, or your entire future line of children can do about it!
pixel
A graphics overhaul would be nice. Hopefully it's more than just the Wonderswan port.
pixel
I don't remember IV being released on WonderSwan...

Anywho, I'm just saying that the graphics aren't much different. I agree that people are graphics whores, hell, I'd prefer it prettied up myself. I just mean when jumping from FF2 to FF3 on my SNES now, they don't look much different. When everythings aged, it all looks the same. One day FF7 and FF9 will look similar to people who are used to photorealistic in game engines in 2018.

I think I'll keep my European Anthology copy thank you very much.
pixel
...Chris, you're joking right? There was definitely a wonderswan port of FFIV...in fact square-haven even has a link covering it: http://www.square-haven.com/games/ws/ff4-ws/

And yeah, I've been meaning to ask you, Nephtis...

I'm sure you've explained it 100 times in the forums of death, but what roundabout method do you use to get games that don't make it to Australia?

The European Edition was in fact released here. We are just not fancy enough to have our own 'Australian Edition'. It happens a bit, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner was also a 'European Edition' and we also got the 'European Extreme' mode in Metal Gear Solid 2.

Huh, interesting...

Well I'm picking up this title for GBA regardless; sounds like two tons of fun to play through it differently.
