In a historic event, Final Fantasy XII has ravaged the innards of Japanese Famitsu in this, its week before release, and earned itself a perfect rating of 40 points. The consequences are quite dire.
Surprise befell the world's gaming audience this week, as the most recent issue of Famitsu, Japan's most popular gaming magazine, unveiled that the highly anticipated Final Fantasy XII had received the magazine's highest marks (viewable here in the far right column). With each reviewer granting Square Enix's latest foray into Ivalice the maximum ten points, Final Fantasy XII has now joined the ranks of fabled classics The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Vagrant Story, Soul Calibur, and (rather strangely) Nintendogs.

But in addition to being the sixth game to receive such accolades and the only title on the Playstation 2 to do so, Final Fantasy XII also holds the remarkable distinction of being the second title primarily under the direction of Yasumi Matsuno to achieve a perfect score (the other being Vagrant Story). Although one may remember the confusion over his involvement, Matsuno's touch still persists in Final Fantasy XII, even if he remains credited for "original concept/scenario/supervision".

In the end, all four of Famitsu's reviewers applauded the game's graphics, scenario design, and game system, noting the freshness that the title has brought to the Final Fantasy series. Famitsu is not entirely unknown for its elevated scoring of high-profile titles, however, dividing many who have always been concerned for the game's final quality. Ultimately, the world will have to wait one long week for Final Fantasy XII's March 16 release date to see if all its excruciating delays, maddened marketing ploys, and unnecessary accessories have been worth the wait.

But after all this time, they damn well better have.

The metaphor's a little... off. Also I've never actually seen a review page of Famitsu. Looks like a glorified EGM doesn't it?
staff

It looks like a single 1/4 column with 4 short paragraphs from each reviewer, and the background image of each paragraph is the score. So for FFXII it looked like this:
10
10
10
10

soz i can't be bothered to read the things jumbled around on the page............my eyes hurt :(

Don't worry, those quadruple spaced children's books will eventually pay off, and it'll be a moment worth crying over.
pixel
Actually it looks like 3 paragraphs and a bit.

Well it's nice to know the game seems to be excellent, at least in Famitsu's eyes. After the lengthy development process it damn well better be good.
pixel
So is this really coming out in Japan in 4 days or will it be pushed back the last second?
staff
pixel
If it's pushed back I doubt it'll be a long time. Like a week's delay or something maybe, but I doubt even that.

Plenty of time to stock food and water in the basement for the impending apocalypse.

Better make sure I've got plenty of FFXII potions to restore my lost hit points.

I'm just waiting for the immense hypocrisy that is about the ensue. Because I know it will happen. Its just a matter of time...

Accompanied by signs of rabid FF7 fanboydom.

Nobody hates change more than Final Fantasy fans

And delays, because, you know, [slight exaggeration]every news article concerning the game on this site whines about it[/slight exaggeration].

Hey I'm an FF fan and I can handle change. I like the idea of a radical change, provided it doesn't actually suck.
pixel
Yeah but most of the changes do suck

then become a game designer and stop bitching if you know so much

"Yeah but most of the changes do suck" compared to anything past 7 (inclusive).
staff

You can't say any of it sucks until you play it. Sure, the idea may suck but this is the reason some of you people annoy me. Play it before assuming things.
staff

This is Matsuno. Matsuno's work by definition does not suck.
pixel
Im not saying that its just that the final fantasy cames went from swords (ff8) to guns (ff10-2) and that ruined it abit, besides not all changes are bad.
staff
pixel
FFVII had guns... and what's a gunblade? :) Or maybe the problem is girls with guns (double entendre alert).
pixel
Hey the gun blade is rarely used (im on disk 3 i know) and thats a biase remark thank you very much. :< i dont play no. 7

Irvine uses guns. Doesn't Laguna use guns?
staff

Laguna's battle theme is "The Man With the Machine Gun".
pixel

staff
pixel
You win the war of platitudes ^^
pixel
Ha Ha very funny oh well sun rise time for bed. :>

this may seem like this came out of nowhere, but i've been wondering. Is tankgirl actually a girl? Just wondering.

This has been a pritty dull week. It seems that the only time any one talks any more is if they are new or something.
