Christian Scheurer

Concept Artist

Christian Lorenz Scheurer is a concept artist for films and video games. The son of a zoologist and visual artist, he lived in many countries throughout his childhood, from South Africa to the Seychelles Islands. He studied math and science in Liestal, Switzerland and went on to enroll in art in Brussels, Belgium, where he won the prestigious Philip Morris Award for his graphic novels.

Christian's art directed the conceptual stages for such films as The Fifth Element, The Matrix, and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. He also contribute to the concept and matte art of Square's entry in The Animetrix. He was a central contributor of art to Final Fantasy IX and will be serving a similar role on Mistwalker's upcoming role-playing game Lost Odyssey.

The solo exhibition "The Worlds of Christian Lorenz Scheurer is currently on display, through September, at the La Maison d'Ailleurs Science Fiction Museum in Yverdon-Les-Bains, Switzerland. He has also released his first book, entitled Entropia: A Collection of Unusually Rare Stamps, which he describes as "the history of an imaginary country and its inhabitants through a series of beautifully crafted stamps... a cross between Nick Bantock’s Griffin and Sabine and the dreamlike worlds of Hayao Miyazaki and Final Fantasy IX."
