March 28, 2008, Square Haven has ceased updates indefinitely. Don't despair, however; the work started here more than ten years ago continues at Videogam.in.

Tetsuya Nomura (野村 哲也)

Character Designer, Game Director

Tetsuya Nomura began his career at a vocational school, creating art for magazine advertisements. It was not until the 1990s that he was recruited by Squaresoft to contribute to Final Fantasy IV's battle graphics, and then to work as graphic director and minor character designer under Yoshitaka Amano for Final Fantasy VI.

Nomura got his big break in 1995, when he was employed as the lead character designer for Final Fantasy VII. In 1998, he worked on both Parasite Eve, Brave Fencer Musashi, and Final Fantasy VIII. More recently, acted as director, concept artist, character designer, and zipper purveyor for Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and Kingdom Hearts II.

Nomura was also responsible for directing Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and is currently at work designing characters for the Fabula Nova Crystallis series and Dissidia Final Fantasy. In addition, he will be directing Final Fantasy Versus XIII and It's A Wonderful World.

  • It's a Wonderful Japan after all
wonderfulworld-shiki.pngShibuya is but one area of Tokyo, Japan - a ward densely populated with those youngsters shunning the solace of sleep; those brave souls willing to resign themselves to the hip nightlife that only Japan can offer. Readers trailing information regarding the upcoming rhythmic action RPG It's a Wonderful World will surely recognize the Shibuyan setting; after all, the game promises to take place in an alternate incarnation of the same area. So, how does one advertise a game like this? Simple... In a fit of ingenuity expected only from a country such as Japan, advertisements for It's a Wonderful World have been sprinkled across the entirety of the Shibuya district in Tokyo. All of this is just in time for the game's Japanese release: July 27. Don't believe me? See for yourself

  • Final Fantasy VII's 10th Anniversary means eye-bulging bonuses
crisis-core-psp_zack.pngSquare Enix recently unveiled its plan for promoting the latest entry into the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. Why? While the company is indeed one of the craftiest money-grubbing groups around, and each handheld FF title seems to require its own customized portable system, there is actually another reason behind this announcement. Everyone's favorite (overrated?) Playstation RPG, Final Fantasy VII, is turning ten years old. A slew of collectibles has been announced to celebrate the game's 10th anniversary, one of which is a limited edition Slim PSP with a Crisis Core facade (gasp!). Die-hard fans of all things Square and/or FFVII should take note of this upcoming special offer, because it won't be available for very long. What are you waiting for? See the goods

  • Nomura: "We're absolutely not making a FFVII remake"
IT JUST IS NOT HAPPENINGLook, I've been telling you guys for years and you just won't listen. Now even Tetsuya Nomura confirms the truth: Square Enix doesn't give a rat's ass about your misguided desire to force the company's employees into a money-losing slavish effort of reproducing a 10 year old game simply because you think Sephiroth in HD will give you a raging hard-on. Oh yeah, IGN reports on an interview with Dorimaga in which Nomura and Kitase proclaim the abovementioned. Best part of the interview? Apparently Sakaguchi's original script for FF7 included "a character called Hot Blooded Detective Joe." IGN

  • Versus XIII tidbits surface
v13_thumb.jpgMotomu Toriyama mentioned in an interview with Dengeki Online that the upcoming Playstation 3 action RPG Final Fantasy Versus XIII will run on the White Engine designed by Yoshinori Kitase's development team. Reportedly, character designer Tetsuya Nomura aims to create fight scenes reminiscent of Advent Children. The story will involve a yet unrevealed heroine and a silver-haired protagonist. The latter, heir to the throne of the last kingdom to possess a sacred crystal, sports eyes that glow red during battle. Toriyama, director of Final Fantasy XIII, also hinted that a trailer for his title revealing new characters will appear sometime soon. RPGFan
