Utada Hikaru was born in New York to Japanese parents with roots in the Japanese music industry. Her facility with both Japanese and English song lyrics have distinguished her as a "third culture" singer in the JPop sphere. She was responsible for the hit singles "Simple and Clean" and "Sanctuary," which appeared prominently in the Kingdom Hearts series of games.
