About a year and a half ago, Square Enix graced us with the Final Fantasy Potion, a mixture of fantastic chemicals all summing to a reportedly horrendous taste. The bottle itself was nothing to gawk at, either. Now Square Enix has different ideas: as part of its Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary celebration, beverage maker Suntory will once again join hands with our favorite Final Fantasy overlords to produce...the same exact thing. Only this time the delicious drink has found its way into collectible tin cans featuring Final Fantasy VII character artwork and others bundled with TRADING ARTS mini figures and minutely different art. - The Pioneers: Masashi Hamauzu
Masashi Hamauzu is a classically trained musician and vocalist. Inheriting the talents of his father, an opera singer, the composer lent his voice to the chorus of "One Winged Angel" in Final Fantasy VII, and years later was selected to compose music for the game's long-awaited sequel. - Square Enix sweeps Playstation Awards
Evil overlord and Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi presided over the tenth annual Playstation Awards yesterday, where Final Fantasy XII received the Double Platinum Award for breaking the two million sales mark since its release in March. Meanwhile, Kingdom Hearts II was graced with the Platinum Award and Dirge of Cerberus came away with a Gold Award alongside Namco's Tales of the Abyss and Banpresto's wonderfully named Daiji Super Robot Taisen Alpha: Shuuen no Ginga he. Gaming website IGN.com recently received a domesticated preview copy of Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII and found that Square Enix has decided to make improvements to the title for its August U.S. launch. This monday will see the start of the Dirge of Cerberus Online beta test, where gamers will be able to playtest the online components announced earlier this week for inclusion in Dirge of Cerberus by way of the PlayOnline model. - Dirge of Cerberus is a "gun action rpg"
It has been revealed that Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII will surprisingly be a "gun action RPG". Cait Sith and "the mysterious girl from the trailers" play a significant role, and Vincent remains a badass. I'm sure no one saw that one coming.
- E3 2005: Squenix vaunts Polymorphism in full swing; still can't provide Final Fantasy XII release date; Kingdom Hearts II voice actors confirmed
"Square Enix, Inc. to Unveil Massive Lineup at The Electronic Entertainment Expo," states the press release furiously. But the list is unimpressive: there's nothing new save for the odd mobile phone title, and the release dates we're so fanboyishly begging for fail to appear as well. Earlier this week The Magic Box had some new details on Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, the upcoming PS2 action title starring Vincent Valentine: "It seems that the mysterious organization D.C. is doing a large scale man hunt, murdering people who they think were worthless. D.C. sends cyborgs and mechanical beasts to attack people. You control Vincent Valentine in a third person perspective, you can also switch to a first person perspective when using rifles. - Square Enix announces Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
The last trademark we didn''t know what to assign to has been followed through on by Square Enix: it''s the rumoured Final Fantasy VII spin-off starring Vincent, Dirge of Cerberus. Aside from a scan from Famitsu portraying him, the game logo, and some screenshots, nothing is known other than that it will be released for PS2 in 2005 and takes place one year after the events in Advent Children. This is the "sequel" we wanted. Or is it?
