• Final Fantasy XII joins Greatest Hits

  Word around the office is that Final Fantasy XII has recently joined the Playstation 2's "Greatest Hits" collection. This means that now is a good time to pick up a Christmas copy for yourself, your family, and...let's be honest here...I could use one too. • Discussion Point: the transition from XII to XIII

  Final Fantasy XIII, whenever it finally launches, will take us right back to the zippers-and-hairspray aesthetic of the Nomura/Kitase/Nojima alliance that rules the series (and indeed, nearly everything to come from the Square half of Square Enix) these days. No doubt XIII will feature very impressive visuals and some clever combat rules and impressive character-twinking possibilities and an inventive new take on the concept of amnesiac heroes who have to save the the world from a beautiful, porcelain-skinned megalomaniac that wants to become a new god. But it likely won't be a brilliant, innovative fusion of numerous disparate styles, a synthesis of western and eastern RPG tradition, a collaboration of single- and multi-player RPG concepts. It won't be Final Fantasy XII, in other words.

  The highly popular DS sequel to Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings has been confirmed for a release in Europe. As with most European releases, Revenant Wings isn't expected until after the American release. The given date -- early 2008 -- is for "all PAL territories." Pocket Gamer UK

• Game Trailers now schooling gamers on Final Fantasy history
  A little over a month ago, GameTrailers.com began its "Final Fantasy Retrospective", a survey of the Final Fantasy series, beginning with its humble origins some twenty years ago. Aside from being extremely well put-together and informative, it features references to some of our favorite embarrassing Square titles, from Alpha to 3-D Worldrunner. Now in its sixth installment featuring Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy XI, it is a comprehensive look at one of Square Enix's flagship series and a definite must-watch for any fan or historian. • Piano Squall brings tempest of music

• E3 2007 - Square Enix to bring online store stateside
  In addition to its E3 lineup announcement, Square Enix has revealed its scheme to open a North American online store. Square Enix, as a self-described "premiere [maker] of high end-collectibles" plans to stock a multitude of "popular and hard-to-find items" including Master Arms, Play Arts, and Mechanical Arts spanning various series, from Final Fantasy to Kingdom Hearts. Clearly, Square Enix has seen that someone, somewhere is making money selling its products. The immediate consequence will likely find many third-party vendors competing for profits with Square Enix itself. The Online Store
