Square + X-box = Final Fantasy XI

Rumors continue to persist that both Square and Final Fantasy XI are Xbox bound.

Although Square continues to deny the rumors, Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports that Square has been confirmed as an Xbox developer and will be making the online service, PlayOnline, available for Xbox gamers as well as a Final Fantasy XI port.

"We have not made any official statements about entering the Xbox field. We cannot comment about the release of an Xbox FF," a Square representative was reported saying.

"I can't confirm or deny anything right now, but getting killer content like FF is Microsoft's major goal right now. Nothing would make us happier right now than Square announcing an Xbox version [of Final Fantasy]." Naoto Yoshioka, an Advanced Technology Group Manager at Microsoft also couldn't confirm the rumors.

Xbox development still isn't official. It has been reported, however, that Square has had Xbox development kits since Summer. It has also been reported that Square has requested GameCube development kits from Nintendo.
