Final Fantasy X-2 sells 2 million copies So. Since March 13th FFX-2 has sold slightly over 2 million copies in Japan, making it uh, a multi-million seller. Square Enix expects the title to do even better when it hits the wild west presumably later this year, as non-Japan territories have been more successful for Squenix titles for a while now. Mother 1 and 2 coming to GBA; Mother 3 under development The official Mother 1+2 homepage has launched at Nintendo's japanese site, with information about the upcoming GBA game which will include both titles on one cart. According to Gamefront, Square Enix has ..done something, that relates to something, that maybe registered a trademark or something and which all boils down to Front Mission Online being released towards the end of the year and using a global communication network to send players strategy guides. All Star Pro-Wrestling III will not come to America. Square Enix revealed its latest upcoming title in the most recent issue of Famitsu, All-Star Professional Wrestling III. The title will feature at least 40 real wrestling pros and has a Japanese release window of summer 2003.
Sega and Namco discuss merging Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports that Sega and Namco are currently discussing the possiblities of a 2004 merger, creating an entity that would topple Konami as the largest third-party publisher in Japan. According to reports, Namco would be completely absorbed by Sega were the merger to happen, with the subsisting conglomerate grossing about $3 billion a year in world-wide sales. Gamers.com

Sony confronts bump in the PS3 road IBM's proposed Cell chip won't be ready in time for Sony's planned 2005/6 launch of the PS3, and as a result, Sony has instead announced that they will be using a different chip set to power the PS3. Which ship they will be using, however, has yet to be decided. IBM's Cell chip architecture is reportedly 100 times more powerful than that of Intel's Pentium 4 and 7 klopogillion times the power of the Turbografix 16. Games Are Fun
The Getaway and Tomb Raider 2 movies develop Sony is finalizing its sales of the rights to the Getaway movie, which should be ready for a release simultaneously with the Getaway 2 at the end of 2004. Tomb Raider 2 is also under progress, as it will apparently be more closely related to the games this time round, with Angelina Jolie featured in a variety of funky locales under direction of Twister-dude Jan de Bont.
Capcom shares drop 16% as it slashes 18 projects Sales of Capcom games have been severely underperforming as Capcom's losses for the fiscal year increased by 50%, leading it to cut 18 upcoming games from its development list - games including new Breath of Fire, Clock Tower, Devil May Cry, and PN03 titles. Final Fantasy XI: Vision of Girade/Jiraat/Gerblah more successful than the game's initial launch With the launch of the Final Fantasy XI add-on pack, Vision of Girade (?) last week in Japan, which shipped at 80k copies and sold 80% of that on the first day, Square Enix should be reasonably happy compared to the fairly poor initial sales of the title last year. Selling 80k of the expansion means that approximately 40% of the game's player purchased the add-on, making it anything but a failure.
Half Life 2 announced The June issue of CGWorld will feature a massive preview of what, according to the cover, is Half Life 2. That said, they probably won't be the first to show it, since it will undoubtedly be revealed more fully at E3. Half Life 2 is coming!
