Console price cuts confirmed, prices not Games Are Fun has confirmed, via retail chain Electronics Boutique, that North American price cuts are "a-comin" for Gamecube, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 consoles. The final prices, however, haven't been confirmed but are believed to be a $50 cut for each console.
EA will reveal This Sims sequel at E3 EA is planning on revealing details about a sequel to The Sims, which was released over three years ago and has spurred more expansions than a cockroach has babies. Befittingly dubbed The Sims 2, the title will feature entirely new gameplay mechanics for your sims as well as a fully 3-D environment. Gamers.com
Kingdom Hearts 2 development uncertain? While Kingdom Hearts 2 remains a heavily rumoured title for Square Enix, especially with the Deep Dive movie already made, and E3 looming, Tetsuya Nomura (director and character designer for Kingdom Hearts) stated to Dorimaga magazine that development of the title is as yet undecided. On the other hand, however, Squenix president Yoichi Wada confirmed its development to Reuters. And to add to the confusion, Amazon Japan has had Kingdom Hearts 2 on its pre-order list since March 29. Gamefront
Star Ocean Online in the works? According to a recent issue of Famitsu magazine, though not confirmed by Square Enix, the company has begun development of an online version of Star Ocean. This would make the 5th game in the series which was an Enix franchise before the merger. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time will be featured at E3 and we have coverage of its soundtracks in the album database.
Re-release of Final Fantasy XI with price cuts June 2003 will see Square Enix releasing a Nice Price version of Final Fantasy XI (without the expansion pack Rise of the Zilart) in Japan for $40. Sony: "Final Fantasy XI, PS2 hard drive in 2004" SCEA president, Kaz Hirai, told the E3 press today that Final Fantasy XI will be released in North America in early 2004. What's more, the game will be published by SCEA rather than Square Enix and the PS2 Hard Drive will be released in time for XI's arrival. Sony shocks everyone (but Matt) with Playstation Portable As possibly the only company who could hope to come close to knocking Nintendo's monopoly of the handheld market with the GBA, Sony revealed the Playstation Portable at E3 today - a toned-up mobile PSOne with DVD playback capability, TFT screen, and more. New release dates for upcoming Squenix titles Square Enix (yes, this article starts with the company name again) has released a list of upcoming release dates for games in the US and Europe. Expect to see Final Fantasy X-2 in Fall in the US, winter in Europe; Unlimited Saga in June US, "Summer" Europe; and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time and Drakengard in early 2004 for both locales.
Post-E3 miscellanea The ravages of E3 passed; but what news did it bring? We all saw E3, though several interviews with key developers like Miyamoto (and Iwata) and Kojima brought some interesting facts into the spotlight. Foremost examples include Iwata's suggestions that Nintendo will soon reveal its online plan centered around no cost to the consumer; Metal Gear Solid 3, says Kojima, will contain online elements and is a completely new engine designed to be used in a future Metal Gear Online.
