- The AIAS announces 2003 nominees
The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences today revealed the nominees for the 2003 Interactive Achievement Awards. Finalists for Game of the Year include Animal Crossing, Battlefield 1942, Rachet & Clank, Metroid Prime, and the bastion of hype known as GTA: Vice City. Kingdom Hearts was nominated for console RPG of the year. Link
- Famitsu rates Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and other miscellanea
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance received a 34/40 (8, 8, 9, 9) rating in the February 1 issue of Famitsu. (For comparison, the original Final Fantasy Tactics received a 33/40.) FFTA is scheduled for release February 19. Also, DigiCube released the official track list of the Final Fantasy Tactics Original Soundtrack, a translation of which can be found at the albums database. - Microsoft recalls Kokuto Chojin; an enraged Allah, crappiness cited as motives
According to Gamers.com, Microsoft pulled all copies of the Xbox fighting game Kakuto Chojin off the shelves Thursday, citing the cataclysmic fear of Allah and content that was potentially offensive to Muslims. Amazon is obvioulsy not wary of Allah's horrible wrath and, as such, is still carrying Kakuto Chojin. Gamers.com
- North America gets Origins after Europe; Rahul makes shameless fun
Square EA has set the release date for the Final Fantasy I-II PSOne remakes, known as Final Fantasy Origins in NA and Europe, for 8th April 2003. The same title will be released two weeks earlier in Europe, according to recent (unconfirmed) reports; both varieties can be picked up for around US$/Euro 30,-. Bahahahahaha! Gamefront

At a shareholder's meeting today, Yoichi Wada indicated that Square Enix would be focusing on the role of the player community as an important aspect of gaming and that they plan to develop titles akin to Final Fantasy XI for release in 2005. There was no information given as to what platform(s) these games would be launched for, but speculation suggests the next generation of online-oriented consoles like PS3 and Xbox Next might be the targets. Take-Two Interactive has recently struck a deal with Disney Interactive to develop the console adaptation of the upcoming animated film Piglet's BIG Movie. The title will be developed by Take-Two label Gotham Games and is scheduled for a March release for both PS2 and Gamecube. Gamers.com

According to Gamespot, Square is currently holding beta testing for a possible North American release of Final Fantasy XI. No word was given on Sony's decision to release the PS2 harddrive stateside, however. Link
- Kuja spotted in Crystal Chronicles
A revealing scan of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles' ingame action has been revealed in some random Japanese magazine where this guy with purple hair and some sort of furry outfit poses as Kuja. We're on to you, dammit! In any case, the screens look interesting - Gamingredients' Robert Brooks said, and I quote, "Prim, wtf is that?" v-jump - Namco spotted resorting to cheap marketing tactics

- Wonderswan discontinued
Reports from Japan indicate that Bandai will be slowing production of Wonderswan hardware - producing only as much as there are orders for - and will soon discontinue production completely. Bandai will reportedly begin Gameboy Advance development soon and will have three or four titles available this fall. Gamers.com
