The fact that in Japan the latest Chocobo-based adventure game from Square Enix is being marketed as a sleep aid might give DS owners pause. However, there is plenty to like about the title. For starters, the soundtrack contains remixes of various memorable Final Fantasy tunes, young and old. Furthermore, the use of the stylus and touch screen during mini-games is reportedly more diverse and amusing than anything Square Enix has conjured up for the portable thus far.
At the start-up screen, players can choose to tackle Story Mode, replete with towns and dungeons to traverse, or jump right into a plethora of selectable mini-games through Quick Mode. Designed with colorful 3D graphics, Chocobo is shaping up to be a welcome addition to the English-language Nintendo DS game library. Famitsu magazine gave Chocobo and the Magic Picture Book a respectable 33/40 when the game went on sale in Japan last month. While Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales won't be out until April 2007, Square Haven will have more on this charming portable adventure title as details emerge. Until then, try the amusing teaser website. It delights in playing with you! Kweh!
