- Dragon Quest VIII release date confirmed
According to the recent issue of V-Jump, Square Enix has confirmed that the newest installment to one of it's most popular series, Dragon Quest VIII, will in fact be released on November 27th, as has been speculated for a couple weeks.
- Square Enix announces Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
The last trademark we didn''t know what to assign to has been followed through on by Square Enix: it''s the rumoured Final Fantasy VII spin-off starring Vincent, Dirge of Cerberus. Aside from a scan from Famitsu portraying him, the game logo, and some screenshots, nothing is known other than that it will be released for PS2 in 2005 and takes place one year after the events in Advent Children. This is the "sequel" we wanted. Or is it?
- Romancing Saga: Minstrel Song is Kawazu's new project
Kawazu's new title seems to also have been unveiled in Famitsu as a remake of the 1992 SNES outing, Romancing SaGa. With more illustrations by Tomomi Kobayashi, also responsible for artwork for previous instances of the SaGa series including the recently globally trashed Unlimited SaGa and completely new graphics and gameplay, Minstrel Song proves to be your latest addition to the Square Enix cash-in-on-old-trademarks branch. Let's hope they cash in on some old Chrono Trigger sometime soon.
- Dragon Quest VIII release date; will be playable at TGS
According to Dengeki Playstation, a Japanese publication, Dragon Quest VIII will be playable at this year''s Tokyo Game Show. Up until now, Dragon Quest VIII had been absent from Square Enix''s TGS lineup. Also, while Square Enix shows a winter release for Dragon Quest, different Japanese retailers have been listing the game with a November 27th release date.
- Hanjuku Hero 4 website launches
As a testament to Japanese oddity..err..unique interests, the offical website for Square Enix''s Hanjuko Hero has launched in anticipation of Hanjuko Hero 4''s trailer presentation at the Tokyo Game Show and further reference to Hanjuko Hero vs 3D. The site appears to include details concerning the "Egg monster competition" and an adorable photo of a character in a crown instructing me to go bash myself. Somebody please tell me what the hell is going on.
- Radiata Stories website launches
While we were out, Square Enix launched the official Japanese site for Tri-Ace hopeful Radiata Stories. The collection features a significant amount of basic information as well as gorgeous new screenshots which do well to exemplify the game's bold artistic style. Radiata Stories official site
- More trademarks join the list of upcoming IP
Square Enix has registered four new trademarks in the US. The newest trademarks are "Code Age", "Code Age Commanders", "Code Age Brawls", "Code Age Archives". However, no trademarks in the Japanese Patent Office have been listed yet.
- Kawazu drops hints at TGS unveiling
Considering Square Enix revealed its TGS line-up and it wasn't very exciting, there's certainly every reason to expect some shattering unveilings at the show later this month. An interview with SaGa and FFCC producer Kawazu has him dropping hints at a new title he's working on that may or may not be shown at TGS. New SaGa? New Crystal Chronicles?
- Square shuts down fan project "Chrono Resurrection"
The Chrono Trigger Resurrection project, a fan-made demo of what Chrono Trigger may look like in full 3d on a current generation console, has been shut down by Square Enix, states the website. - Before Crisis beta test sees unexpected popularity (because who would want to play a Final Fantasy VII prequel)
Square-Enix disclosed some problems that have arisen with the beta testing of Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII. Namely, people can't stop playing it, to the point that the servers are frequently overloaded. According to Square-Enix, there have been over 1.6 million accesses since August 31st. - Japanese release for Advent Children slips to 2005
Sources in Japan are claiming Square Enix' confirmation of a release for Advent Children being delayed to Spring 2005 in the country. The news follows the showing on Sunday of a 24 minute cut from the upcoming DVD/UMD movie at the Venice Film Festival. Softbank games
- Offical FFXII update; racially charged images abound
Days after the fact, Square Enix has updated its Final Fantasy XII website with previous race information, in addition to new Moogle, Banga, and Seeq art and images. This, of course, lends itself to another opportunity to abuse the word "race". FFXII official site
- Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy to bridge gap between franchises
Out of nowhere, probably because we don't really care, Square Enix unveiled Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy in Itadaki Street Special in a recent issue of Jump magazine. It's a board game featuring characters from the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy franchises and will be out this winter. Sounds a bit like Mario Party, to be honest. Jump magazine scan

- Final Fantasy I & II Advance titled and dated for North America
According to Nintendo, the GBA remake of Final Fantasy I and II will be released in North America on November 29 with the title "Dawn of Souls."
- Star Ocean 3 Till the End of Time will come with bonus disk in Europe, confirms Square Enix
Following our earlier reports that a bonus disk may accompany the release of Star Ocean 3 in Europe, Square Enix today confirmed its presence in the retail version of the game. The disk will include interviews with the development team, artwork from the game, musical excerpts of Sakuraba's soundtrack and the previously mentioned trailers of upcoming Square Enix titles, including Final Fantasy XII.
- Famitsu reveals Tri-Ace's Radiata Stories
Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean developer Tri-Ace is creating an upcoming PS2 RPG for Square Enix called Radiata Stories, the latest issue of Famitsu reveals. - FFXII site updated with race information
A new section of the Final Fantasy XII official site has been opened, revealing new details about the races of Ivalice. Currently, the only information available concerns the "Humes", an intelligent race which eats up a 40% piece of the population pie, and the Viera, slender-bodied and silver-haired forest peoples with a tremendous longevity. The Viera, who come in light-skinned and dark-skinned varieties ("Veena" and "Vana", respectively) have their numbers split between forest inhabitation and Hume integration. - Bonus FFXII disk to be included in PAL Star Ocean
According to Amazon.co.uk, the European shipment of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, already a two-disk set, will also come packaged with a bonus DVD of Final Fantasy XII footage. Although the game's European release date falls on October 1st, the addition of this extra has not yet been offically confirmed by Square Enix or the game's European publisher, Ubisoft. Amazon.co.uk
