- Re-release of Final Fantasy XI with price cuts
June 2003 will see Square Enix releasing a Nice Price version of Final Fantasy XI (without the expansion pack Rise of the Zilart) in Japan for $40. This edition will include the latest patch of the game so users don't have to go through the reported 5 hour download torture involved in the update process. Gamefront
- Star Ocean Online in the works?
According to a recent issue of Famitsu magazine, though not confirmed by Square Enix, the company has begun development of an online version of Star Ocean. This would make the 5th game in the series which was an Enix franchise before the merger. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time will be featured at E3 and we have coverage of its soundtracks in the album database.
- Kingdom Hearts 2 development uncertain?
While Kingdom Hearts 2 remains a heavily rumoured title for Square Enix, especially with the Deep Dive movie already made, and E3 looming, Tetsuya Nomura (director and character designer for Kingdom Hearts) stated to Dorimaga magazine that development of the title is as yet undecided. On the other hand, however, Squenix president Yoichi Wada confirmed its development to Reuters. And to add to the confusion, Amazon Japan has had Kingdom Hearts 2 on its pre-order list since March 29. Gamefront

- Square Enix good deal for investors
Analyst Eiji Maeda of the Daiwa Institute of Research created a list of companies for the Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper which should be good choices for longterm investors. Square Enix, Capcom and Nintendo were the top three on that list - especially Squenix due to the fusion and the resulting increased output. As for Capcom, it seems odd since the company has not been selling well recently, and Nintendo's reduced popularity is certainly nothing to shout about - though this obviously is not damaging them particularly. - Square Enix developing world's only biker gang MMORPG
"Proving that the Square Enix partnership isn't just about exploiting powerful franchises, the newly-formed company today announced the world's first massively-multiplayer online biker gang RPG for the PC, as reported by Impress Game Watch. Entitled Bakusou, Yankee Tamashii, something about burning wheels and "Yankee Souls," it lets players design their own biker-thug alter ego and roam the streets of Tokyo." Gamers.com
- Square Enix expands Final Fantasy X-2 merchandise line
Gamers.com reports an update to the various available FFX-2 merchandise, which in this case includes a sleek zippo lighter valued at $120 and some figurines that can be chained to it. The zippo also has some sort of bird motif, seemingly significant to the game. FFX-2 zippo
- BLACK MAGES live thanking/performing meat festival leads to 2nd album announcement
As Famitsu reports, the live concert of Final Fantasy: the Black Mages, an arranged album of battle themes, was held on 26/27 April in the Shibuya AX. The concert was a giant success and Uematsu and co felt that doing another album like this one would be beneficial to the fan community. The concert will be aired on Uematsu's internet radio in June.

As E3 draws near, companies have begun to reveal small details of the titles they will be unveiling at E3 in order to get the right press there. Accordingly, Square Enix has released information on its upcoming Nintendo titles, as well as confirmed registration of some others. Full Article
- Hanjuku Hero vs 3d not sunny side up yet
According to Famitsu, Square Enix's development of Hanjuku Hero vs 3d, the funky SRPG seeing you battle between 2d and 3d parties, is only 70% complete, even with a Japanese release date of late June. Gamefront
- Final Fantasy XI: Vision of Girade/Jiraat/Gerblah more successful than the game's initial launch
With the launch of the Final Fantasy XI add-on pack, Vision of Girade (?) last week in Japan, which shipped at 80k copies and sold 80% of that on the first day, Square Enix should be reasonably happy compared to the fairly poor initial sales of the title last year. Selling 80k of the expansion means that approximately 40% of the game's player purchased the add-on, making it anything but a failure.
- Shinyaku Seiken Densetsu will feature co-op play
Shinyaku Seiken Densetsu [news|coverage] will reportedly include a two-player feature where two players can link up via GBA link cable and play coperatively. Accordingly, the same mode of play will also be enabled for gamers via Gamecube GameBoy Player
- No hard drive needed for North American Final Fantasy XI?

- All Star Pro-Wrestling III will not come to America.
Square Enix revealed its latest upcoming title in the most recent issue of Famitsu, All-Star Professional Wrestling III. The title will feature at least 40 real wrestling pros and has a Japanese release window of summer 2003.
- Front Mission Online?
According to Gamefront, Square Enix has ..done something, that relates to something, that maybe registered a trademark or something and which all boils down to Front Mission Online being released towards the end of the year and using a global communication network to send players strategy guides. Yay?

- Final Fantasy X-2 sells 2 million copies
So. Since March 13th FFX-2 has sold slightly over 2 million copies in Japan, making it uh, a multi-million seller. Square Enix expects the title to do even better when it hits the wild west presumably later this year, as non-Japan territories have been more successful for Squenix titles for a while now. - Hanjuku Hero vs 3d release date & limited edition
Square Enix has set the release date for upcoming quirky PS2 Strategy RPG Hanjuku Hero vs 3d to June 26th in Japan. The title features a battle between 2d sprites and 3d polygons using cel-shaded graphics and features some of the weirdest character designs seen yet. A $73 Limited Edition release of the game will also be initially available, although no details have been mentioned.
