Masafumi Miyamoto, Square's founder and owner of 40% of the company, has voiced discontent about the conditions of the merger between Square and Enix. A dispute over the exchange ratio of shares (100 of Square shares for 81 of Enix) threatens the merger, according to Enix chairman Yasuhiro Fukushima, who has called a special shareholder's meeting to vote on going ahead with the merger under the current plan. Square EA has announced that Final Fantasy Origins, a compilation of the PlayStation remakes of NES games Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II, will be released in North America sometime in April. Details about the remakes were revealed last August.

- Final Fantasy XII poster, staff members revealed
Square revealed a teaser image and various Final Fantasy XII staff members in the form of an advertisement in the Japanese magazine Dorimaga. Jun Akiyama (FF VII) will be the production supervisor while Akihiko Yoshida (FF Tactics, Vagrant Story) has been chosen as character designer and Hideo Minaba (FF Tactics, FF IX) as art director. - Square confirms Jump Festa 2003 lineup
Square has announced its game lineup for Jump Festa 2003 at its official website. Aside from the requisite promotional stuff, Square will showcase three GameBoy Advance titles (Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Chocobo Land and Shinyaku Seiken Densetsu), three PlayStation 2 games (Hanjuku Hero VS 3D, Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, and Final Fantasy X-2), and its lone GameCube project, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles information released
The latest info on Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was revealed in a magazine spread headlined by this curious statement: "Crystals and mana interweave." Its plot is based on a quest to purify the world's crystals by using rare "mana water." The GameCube action RPG gives you the choice of choosing among four main characters each corresponding to a different race. Up to four characters can play Chronicles simultaneously, and the game also interfaces with the GameBoy Advance, which displays status info and field position for a character. Quiter
- GBA Seiken Densetsu details released
Square has revealed more information on Shinyaku Seiken Densetsu (roughly interpreted as "Seiken Densetsu New Testament"), which appears to be patterned after Legend of Mana. As in LoM, one may choose between two main protagonists (a male "gladiator" and female heorine). Rabites (a familiar enemy in the SD series) and even Lil Cactuar, (a character from LoM) appear in the action RPG. Shinyaku is being developed by Nintendo second party Brownie Brown. Quiter

Square has reached the 190,000 Final Fantasy XI subscriber mark, and expects to hit 200,000 by the end of the week. With 200,000 subscribers killing and maiming their way across the virtual world of Vana'diel, Square will finally break even on the $16 million investment made on the game's development and maintenance.

A new, arranged Final Fantasy album, titled The Black Mages, has recently been announced on Nobuo Uematsu's PlayOnline site. For no particular reason other than to be perceived as on top of shit, several gaming sites have posted non-articles, fluffed up with irrelevant opinion, on non-information about Final Fantasy Tactics Advance - something about 300 missions and 40 jobs from a 30-word blurb at Gamefront. It is expected that heel-dragging Square sites will sluttily rehash the non-contents of whatever sources they stumble upon, irrelevant opinion and all. Except this one.

- Final Fantasy I & II, Unlimited SaGa coming to North America
According to GamePro, Square is planning to release the PlayStation versions of Final Fantasy I & II as well as Unlimited SaGa in North America this coming spring. Final Fantasy I & II will reportedly be sold together in a single package.
- Square considering Final Fantasy VII sequel
According to Japanese site Quiter and the upcoming issue of Famitsu, Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase is interested in making a direct sequel to Final Fantasy VII, which is often cited as the most popular installment of the series. Tetsuya Nomura also expresses such interests. Although there are no plans yet and the title is still under consideration, Final Fantasy VII-2 could very well become a reality in light of Final Fantasy X-2.
