Use that nifty button instead of double posting...because double posting makes me cry....
Why don't more people like you moderate and/or administrate forum boards. We need more smart arses to correct people damn it! |

I second that :) |

See my opinion is people make mistakes. Not everyone on here is good at computers so if someone posts in the wrong place or double posts occassionaly get over it. Though I agree we all know how to read so we should know where to post ( I am one who posts in the wrong place sometimes ) EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES!!!!! does it really hurt anyone? skip reading that post if you don't like it. All you nit pickers GO PLAY A GAME!!! NERD!!!! |

sorry for my tirate. Just I would rather see double posting than a bunch of people posting about why you shouldn't double post. Either way it is a waste of time and space. |

Its my opinion, dont judge me because i dont purposely look for shit nobody listens to just to sound or look "original".
And as i said, when my mom died the cd and a couple friends (including Zero) helped me from commiting suicide, but its not like you needed to know that.
I am sorry that your mom died, if Evanescence helped you get through that period then fuck what these losers say. They like to cut other people down to feel better. They are just picking on you to pick because they have nothing better to do. |

Yeah! That's how it is!
Actually, Evanescence is mentioned by so many as emo inspiration simply because it's so simplistic as to easily appeal to many. Much like hard trance. Or banging on pots and pans. |

Rahul,
Maybe when someone asks a question and you don't like someones answer then you don't have to second guess everything that they say. Maybe.... just maybe Evanescence is a great band that a lot of people like. Who cares because if it makes them feel better that is all they need. You are stereotyping people when you say "Evanescence is mentioned by so many as emo inspiration simply because it's so simplistic as to easily appeal to many." so what if it does it isn't your place to say basically that it is just easy to say you like them because eveone says they do. It should be enough if someone likes it they just do...not everyone runs with the crowd. Some people just know what they like. nWho is your favorite band Rahul? |

This is a forum. This is the exact place to say that.
Again, I have no qualms with someone liking Evanescence. Attaching yourself to the "importance" of the songs and identifying with the lyrics is what I consider ridiculous and I attribute it primarily to a) the fact that they are Christian-inspired, and as we all know religion is the absolute apex of fear-primed ideologies and B) the pop-oriented, watered down, devalued stereotypical crap that they engineer for exactly the reasons that make them successful.
So in layman's terms, Evanescence pisses me off because they're simplistically trite and shallow. Identifying with music for emotional reasons is not a legitimate excuse for having bad taste. |
vip |
what is it with you teenagers and your 'emo' what the hell does 'emo' mean? I...being old and out of touch... have no idea... bad music and cutting your wrists is what I've come to understand so far.... am I way off? because to me thats just grunge... is emo the new grunge???
by the way lets stop playing 'who is smarter than who' and just let other people be stupid, while, knowing in your own mind that you are smarter/better.... you'll get less migranes and stomach aches that way... |

I'm listening to anticon samplers, dose one is fecking great, mon. |

In no way is Evanescence my favorite band. The question was
Favorite Band/Singer.
Why they're your favorite Band/Singer.
Favorite song(s) by said artist.
So why pick on it?.....no one asked Rahul to like them........it is a matter of taste and not everyone has the same taste. Life would be boring if we did. |

..... still doesn't know what emo is... <_< damn kids with your music and your drugs... |

Emotional Hardcore-Punk, or Emo, is a derivative of punk, but with emotional lyrics, often relating to internal struggles related to love and what have you. It was started in the mid 1980's down in D.C. Now-a-days they mix Melodo-Death Metal in with it, creating the genre of Screamo. Basically, Emo, with screaming. There you have it.

Agreed. I didn't create this topic for you to sling dirt at one another because someone else's taste in music doesn't tango well with you. Just get the fuck over it...Rahul, since you seem to care so much. I didn't proclaim my disdain of U2 when they were mentioned, so keep it to yourself. |

Sorry, but I have every right to comment. If you don't like it, that's too bad. |

Whatever.
Just because you have the "right" to do something doesn't mean you should do it. But if it makes you happy acting like an asshole, then go right ahead. |

I'm not "acting like an asshole", I'm presenting a well argued opinion that until this point in time no one has bothered to bring any (valid) counterpoints against. My opinion has as much purpose being in this thread as anyone who considers validating enjoyment of Evanescence because it "connected to ". |

You know, I find this absolutely FUCKING HILARIOUS because you were feverishly masturbating all over yourself with their cd crammed quite far up your scrawny ass. Well argued opinion? Please. The only thing I see here is you being angry because you fell for their ploy, and to make up for that, it's a game of Seek and Destroy. (Ooh, that rhymed.)

You see, that in itself could be taken as a personal attack. Bad taste? I scoff at thee. I remember you having agreed with me many a month ago over my stating "There is no such thing as bad taste, people like what they like, and that is that." My how we've regressed in our ways. Hate them with all your heart. Do it. You already have. But don't come here feeding other people bullshit, telling them that they have bad taste in music according to your 'standards'. |

What, you think that's some kind of argument I didn't expect you to pull out? Or that it's even relevant to this discussion?
By all means, I like Evanescence's music. Don't think that my arguments against using them as one's personal saviour (and that is the bad taste I refer to) means the quality of their music is horrible.
As for people liking what they like; this still holds true. Trying to drag my arguments here out of context won't help disprove my reasoning. In this case, I'm talking about someone expressing a forged reason as their liking of music, as opposed to enjoying the music for the music.
Saying "I like Evanescence because it sounds good" is a whole lot more wholesome of a reason than "I like Evanescence because their lyrics connect to me as if they were written about me ". Doing that is just acknowledging that you're a carbon coby of the (Christian) stereotype they intend to approach in their songwriting.
That's what I dislike about people who like Evanescence. The music itself is another topic altogether. |

Rahul I love Pussy Liquor
a song by Rob Zombie......it makes me feel good when I hear it, it makes me want to live and show the world what a great song it is. It makes me want to save lives and it makes me happy!!!!!.
I CONNECT WITH IT!!!!!!!!!! I feel like he is writing to me. Rob Zombie helps me get through hard times.
Have you heard this song? Are you the anti-christ? I must be giving in to religous temptation by thinking of Rob Zombie as a reason to live just to hear his music.....just to hear Pussy Liquor one more time. I feel like through Rob Zombie God speaks to me.
how about what makes you feel good makes you want to be around. And it has nothing to do with religion or spirituality at all.
I guess I am a carbon copy because I feel like when something is good it helps you get through hard times simply because it makes you smile. How can you disprove what makes you feel good also helps you connect and get through hard times ? |

Ah this topic has been fun to catch up with, to think you guys were swelling an interesting debate up without me! Unfortunately, I'm going to have to side with Rahul. Now as much as music can indeed attach itself to me emotionally, it certainly only does it for several select reasons.
First off, when I hear a song from say an anime or a video game, it brings back the emotions I experienced while playing/watching said title. That clearly isn't what's being talked about here.
The only other time is when certain songs remind me or certain people or places, not because 'the lyrics connect', but because that's what was playing at the time. Take a certain CD of mine by Orgy, Candyass. That album vaguely reminds me of year 9 (all those years ago) because I used to listen to it alot at that point in time. Other examples include certain songs that were played alot around certain friends and so on.
Basically what I'm trying to say is the only reason music is 'able to tap into me' is because it's from a past event, not because it's 'about me'. So I suppose I may only partially be siding with Rahul after all.
That said, music is music. It's awesome for so many reasons, but at the end of the day it's there for enjoyment purposes. I love my music, but it only affects me emotionally when connected to something else.
Huzzah, another my two cents after exams and early in the morning.
Oh one last thing, this is a forum, people have opinions. People will get angry, people will get into debates. You'll get used to it, and one day a lot of you may find it's actually quite fun to have a reasonable debate with others over a given issue, just don't take it personally or way out of hand as some of you have been. Relax. |
vip |
Trying to pretend that a song you're listening to is somehow part of your actual life experience (or that it somehow relates) is in no way a bad thing. Sure, maybe its a tired device to try to make cookie-cutter lyrics actually mean something, but as many people have already said, what is music for than to make you feel good (or at times, to make you reflect)? Everyone has their opinion, sure, but to care more about the thoughts of people with no control over your life (or free will) rather than what makes you yourself happy is a pointless exercise.

On top of Wiegraf's wise comments, this forum is also titled "Palaverity", which safely includes the definition "to discuss things about which there is a difference in opinion" (among others, such as "the incessant droning of a multitude of vapid minions").
In other words, we're supposed to argue in this forum. I for one am all for it. Challenge my unfounded, biased cockmongering! I won't mind, even if you still can't come up with any kind of reasonable counter-argument! |
