It's been ten years, and this mascot's still cute as ever! At the Square Enix Pre-Party conference, a new Wii game involving Final Fantasy's most popular yellow avian was revealed by producer Yuuki Yokoyama. The game is set to debut for the Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 10th Anniversary. The first trailer for the game has appeared on the net and Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon: Labyrinth of Forgotten Time is the title's direct translation.

In the opening sequence of the trailer that premiered at the Square Enix Pre-Party conference, we are treated to seeing our cute Chocobo hero frolicking through a quaint little town called Ville. The viewer is asked, "What is the true meaning of happiness?" as the protagonist of Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon is seen chatting with Shiroma the white mage outside her farm, strolling along the cobblestone streets of Ville, and sipping coffee at a local bistro. The music is cheery, nostalgic, and uplifting.

However, things cannot remain this upbeat forever. That would defy the laws of videogames! When a mysterious phenomenon causes the townsfolk to forget the past, it's up to our hero to dungeon-crawl and salvage their lost memories. Cut to Chocobo clashing talons with baddies in the Labyrinth of Forgotten Time. In a cavern flowing with oozing lava, gameplay shows the tenacious yellow bird scoring a critical hit against a goblin and a pack of bombs. The clip makes it clear that the RPG elements familiar to the Mysterious Dungeon series will be present in the Wii iteration, and intricately designed dungeons seem a sure thing.

Chocobo's Dungeon: Labyrinth of Forgotten Time remains faithful to the style of the Nintendo DS title Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales. The 10th Anniversary game promises more of what made the original a long-running franchise, and producer Yuuki Yokoyama promises the game will be more expansive than a straight-up dungeon crawler. No release date has been set for the game, but considering the shortage of Square Enix Wii titles, and the favorable reception met by Chocobo Tales, chances are good it will see a release in the English-speaking world.

It'd be interesting to see what it's like, as the original dungeon title didn't come out here (I don't think). I'd check the video, but I'm at work.
